I can't pick just one so here are some of my favs...

Suspiria - This movie is a total treat for the eyes, the building they are in is incredibly mysterious and the colors throughout this movie are intense. The death scenes are very disturbing and gruesome. More of an art-horror flick.

Demons - Same director as Suspiria, and also quite gruesome. But he does a great job of making you feel trapped like the victims in the movie.

The Ring - Yeah there's plot gaps and errors all through this movie, but I was glued to the screen the entire time watching it. The end scene with the girl coming toward the screen is very eerie. Very fresh idea for a horror movie when compared to the usual slasher flick. And to top it all off the end of the movie leaves you feeling like you're next.

The Evil Dead - Scary shit, especially when they go into the basement. Its a low budget movie, but the creep factor is through the roof. Very cool camera & creative shots, like the floating through the swamp scene in the begining.

The Fog - I honestly had to take sleeping pills when I watched this at my friends house when I was younger, cuz I was too afraid to sleep.

The Excorcist - The makeup on regan's face is a work of art in itself. I've seen this movie a million times, so it bores me nowdays. But if you've never seen it, rent the original version!

I vote for the EXORCIST.

I saw it first when I was about 7, and it scared the living crap out of me. Embarrassingly, I also lost sleep behind the HOWLING. (But, hey, I was a kid!) Since adulthood, I can't recall any movie aside from maybe NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD that has really psychologically disturbed me, but I have to admit the FINAL DESTINATION installments, while I think they're generally cinematic junk food, have really stressed me out in terms of skillfully using anticipation and gore.

The SHINING, the BELIEVERS, the original 1927 NOSFERATU and INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE have all been favorites of mine from the standpoint of bringing intelligence to the genre. But I can't say I think they're scary.

Tom. I think you have awesome taste in horror films. I loved all of these (and I personally think a good remake of the Fog could be phenomenal!!!)

Are you a fan of Italian zombie films?

The Exorcist- I can watch this mvie now without being scared, but the first time was frightening.

The Ring- I don't think I've ever been freaked out after watching a movie. I don't know what it is, but this film had a lasting effect on me and my dreams were filled with images from it. Now I want to see the orginal films!

The Evil Dead- Dang, when that girl just kept looking out the window and then turned around possesed oh hell naw! That freaked me out!

Candyman- I love the theme music, and Candyman's voice.

Salem's Lot- This scared me as a kid, but now I find it cheesy.

probably the exorcist and the shining. OOOHHH!!! they are some scary MF's!

Those are my favorites also. I was just watching the Shining again and thought, "God, this is one of the scariest movies of all time!"

Did anyone see the Exorcist a couple of years ago when they re-released it? It had all the original parts in it that were taken out because they were too controversial or something. The part where she runs down the stairs in a backbend on her fingers and toes made me almost crap my pants! Everyone in the theater screamed. I still have nightmares about that part. lol

These are in my top 5 also. I was just going to say "Hellraiser". "Night of the Living Dead" is one of the best IMO, but I have a thing about zombie films. I love horror movies, and have probably seen almost everything out there, but for some reason, movies with dead people lumbering about and eating people's brains just freak me out. I can't watch it anymore. Maybe it's because it's like in your dreams when someone's chasing you and you can't get away. They just keep coming, slowly, not even running, yet they still end up getting you in the end.
