I used to have a food addition but nothing like "diabetes-related complications" to help you put the fork down. biggrin

I also used to have a people addiction. The more time you go without being around or communicating with that person or persons, makes it easier to get over.

Used to be internet until I decided that it was an avoidance tactic to keep me from dealing with the real issues in my life AND I'm finding that my favorite site is/has been a haven for assholes and since I mostly hate people anyway, it's easier to stay away.

Used to be porn, every night but there are only so many angles you can watch a chick suck dick from.

I dunno, I don't really feel like I have any right now and it's a really good feeling.

I'm not sure if it counts as an addiction but I'm often obsessed with finishing things, be it creative projects, courses, whatever is on my plate, etc etc. This also applies to tv shows on DVD. I just can't watch two or three seasons and then take a long break. If the whole series is ten seasons, I will watch ten seasons, one or two episodes per night until I have seen the whole thing. Needless to say it's a huge time thief...

Not sure how to break it though.

Other than the TV thing (which I also have) I wish I shared the addiction to finishing things

I am very good at starting things, but I must be addicted to options, because they often overwhelm me and make it difficult to choose a direction and finish a project.

I don't have any addictions to 'break'.

I thought I did but some things that happened recently made me realize that all the stuff I was sure I was so addicted to and just can't be without, are really only just things I prefer. When push came to shove and I actually had to go without them for awhile I surprised myself by not being anywhere near as miserable without them as I thought I'd be.

By 'corn syrup' you mean "High Fructose Corn Syrup" right?

If so...did you know they've renamed it "corn sugar" or "natural sugar"???

Ive also read the body doesnt know the diff between corn sugar and regular sugar... sugar is sugar... But then, I live in Nebraska... Home of the Cornhuskers... we grow LOTS of corn... it may just be all bullshit... nod

mr.green

If you are allergic to corn like I am, your body will definately tell the difference between cane sugar and corn sugar! Whew!!!! nod

I am very good at starting things, but I must be addicted to options, because they often overwhelm me and make it difficult to choose a direction and finish a project.

Well, being addicted to finishing things isn't always as great as it may sound. It does allow me to get results more often than most people and I'm incredibly grateful for that, but when I am not able to finish something - for whatever reason - it is incredibly frustrating. And not only that; the unfinished endeavour keeps popping into my head, sometimes for years. It would have been really nice to be able to just let some things go sometimes.

By the way, being overwhelmed by options is something I definitely recognize. That and being addicted to starting things are not mutually exclusive. In fact they seem to amplify each other as I often struggle to settle on one thing to start on partly because I worry that I've picked the wrong thing when there are so many better things out there to do, and partly because I know that once I start I'll be obsessing with it which will block me from all the other options.

I actually think the multitude of options is one of the greatest problems of today's society. People were much happier back when they weren't jacked in with the rest of the friggin world. It just makes you feel like the grass is constantly greener somewhere else.

I gave up soda years ago. (although in the last 2 years I have been drinking about 8 sodas a year.) I did stop eating ice cream for 2 years. I eat ice cream from time to time.

I should give up sugar and corn syrup etc. That is a hard thing to do. I generally don't eat flour-except when eating out or a pastry.

By 'corn syrup' you mean "High Fructose Corn Syrup" right?

I had not heard that. Real cane sugar tastes best though.

Looky here:

Corn Syrup. Corn syrup is a glucose derivative of corn starch, popular in the brewing, canning, and baking industries because it lends texture and body to these types of products.

High-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) takes the processing of corn syrup one step further, by converting much or all of the glucose to fructose. The resulting product is sweeter than sucrose, allowing less of it to be used. HFCS is the main nutritive sweetener in the soft drink industry.

I want to quit smoking right now. It's not to the point where I've actually tried yet. It's just to the point where every pack I buy I'm like this is my last....this is my last. Then I have this awful feeling of guilt when I'm doing it. It's not enjoyable anymore. I just don't want to go through the withdrawals so I haven't even tried not to smoke yet. I guess I'm putting it off.

Yeah, option overload definitely relates to starting things. It's like the branches of a tree, where something starts and then there are multiple directions it can go, and it only gets worse as the thing develops. That's why I find it really hard to finish stuff.

I'm becoming obsessed with simplifying my life because I see how problematic this can be.

I was addicted to biting my nails.. Then I had a slip and fall accident and ended up with TMJ :/

So now that I can't bite my nails, they've grown and look very nice.

But now I'm addicted to cleaning my nails.. I do it ALL DAY long.. I dig in them with every sharp object I can find and I can't stop washing my hands. I just want them to look perfect at all times.. Plus I polish them almost everyday boxed

If they broke I would probably cry...

I'm right there with ya. And I really do feel like I'm addicted to it. I want the benefits of not drinking it, such as health and weight loss but when it really comes down to it, I'm not ready to quit.

A lot of it is that I don't feel like I have alternatives other than water. I don't like tea. Juices have just as much or more sugar than pop. I do like coffee but I don't want to drink it all day.

Oh, and I'm addicted to Cheez-Its.

Shake it til ya make it dancing jig

Sugar and flour are my big addictions. Never been able to kick those. I know someone who did. Lost TONS of weight! And he feels better than he has in years! He used to have a cocaine habit and he told me withdrawing from coke is nothing compared to withdrawing from sugar & flour.

I had loco craving for these. Especially refined flour. I'd feel shakey & anxious, if I didn't eat pasta. lol

Began using (I still must talk myself into choosing): whole grain products, stevia (Splenda), honey, fruits, seltzer & filtered water.

Once in a while I will have a can of soda or eat some cookies. Afterwards I fast for a few hours

(filtered water only) to give my body a chance to recoup.
