OMG I'm so glad you're okay, that sounds really scary. I'm glad she was arrested and somebody heard you and helped.
As for me, when I was, it was an inside job.

Not directly. I had my wallet stolen out of my purse while I was at a restaurant. I had noticed these two very tall guys in the restaurant (like 6'4"+) but didn't really think anything of it. There was a college nearby so I thought maybe they were on the basketball team. They sat at the table behind ours; the back of the taller guy's chair was right behind the back of mine. Foolishly, I had my purse hanging on the back fo my chair. At some point during dinner I felt someone pushing on my chair so I turned around, ready to be annoyed and it was the guy. I thought, "oh yeah, that guy is tall, he probably doesn't have enough room" and he smiled at me and apologized. A few minutes later I noticed my wallet was gone and so were he and his friend. There was a subway stop half a block away; they were long gone. I told the managment, etc. but they didn't seem to care, they didn't even give me a discount on my meal!
I am notorious for never having cash on hand so they only got $20 and a book of stamps, but all my credit cards, drivers license, and socical security card were in there, too. (For weeks I was scared they would come to my apartment and break in or do something to me.) They used one of my credit cards to charge $200 at a grocery store. I always thought that was kind of funny -- it was a Friday night so maybe the good stores (electronics, clothing) were closed.
I filed a police report and a fraud alert with the three major credit reporting agencies; my credit card credited me the money with no hassle, but they were never caught. Getting a new social security card and drivers license was a pain. I learned my lesson - 1. I never put my handbag on the back of chairs now and 2. I do not ever carry my soc. card with me! The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

When I was like 12 someone broke into my parents' house and stole our TV.
It was scary because afterwards we found footsteps in the snow outside showing where he/they walked up to the Living Room window and were probably staring at us inside, (it was night) and when we left to go run an errand, they broke in.

very well in fact, it was discovered later that she or someone she knew well stole some valuable things, but it was my fault cause of allowing them in and trusting them too much and making it easy for them, too lazy to give the story and when I brought up the missing items, neither showed remorse and were protecting other people they barely knew who could have done it too [Edited 1/24/12 7:01am]

When I was maybe 15 I was walking towards the subway through an underground walkway (classic robbery spot I guess) and suddenly two guys came up from behind and shoved me against the wall. Before I had time to even realize what had just happened, they were gone. I checked my wallet and it was still there. The only things they'd snatched were my gloves (that I'd been holding in my hand). I guess they were pretty nice leather ones but still - who robs someone to get their gloves? They must have had really cold fingers.

Oh, heck yeah. Several times in The Big Apple (NYC). I had two gold nameplates snatched off of my neck on broad day light. One had diamonds on it, one was plain. Also, I was on my way to work at night, I had a sapphire and diamond ring, some cash, and I believe a gold necklace, and a man walked up to me, appeared to be strapped and told me to give him everything I got. I did without a fight. At home, a gold watch and cash. I used to wear a lot of jewelry, but that changed.

I haven't but my friend's mum did only yesterday. It's such a shame as her gran just died on Saturday. Her mum was picking up her little one from school yesterday & left her bag in the car. When she returned the window had been smashed & her bag taken, along with the £500 that was to pay the funeral directors. I feel so sorry for them all.

No I've never been robbed, thank God, but in my city lately, all over the news, there's been reports of teenagers beating up old people and stealing their wallets or purses.
Funny I saw this thread today. When I was at my parking deck today, I was waiting for the elevator because I had to go to the 4th floor where my car was. The doors open and this young woman in the corner with, what looked like, some gym clothes on and a bag bawled up in her arms. I walk in, she speaks, I speak back, I push the Level 4 button and wait for the doors to close. What I do notice is that no other buttons are lit up, guessing why else would this lady be in the elevator without pushing the button for her floor...unless she was on the same floor I was on and just missed it before which is why she was still in the elevator when I got on it from the ground level? I got this strange feeling, the hairs on my neck were standing up. So we get to the 4th floor and I hurry out looking a little behind me to see if the lady got off behind me. She didn't and stayed in the elevator. You talking about relief that I felt, but also the feeling of being uneasy. It was strange. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.
