Avatar 2 Delayed Until 2016

'Avatar 2' release delayed until 2016, says producer

January 15, 2012

The release of Avatar 2 has been delayed until 2016, according to its producer Jon Landau.

Previously, director James Cameron had insisted that he was planning on releasing the next film in the series in December 2014, with Avatar 3 set to follow a year later in December 2015.

Landau – who was speaking at a screening for the forthcoming Titanic remake – confirmed that Avatar 2 was at least "four years away" from hitting the big-screen.

In October last year, actor Sam Worthington claimed that Avatar 2 would be "monumental" and said that Cameron's plans for the Pandora-based movie were well under way. He said: "It's just a matter of him writing the script, piecing it together and figuring out how to push himself.

"He wants a challenge. And he wants to improve the audience's experience. He's been messing about with 3D and frame rates a lot more."

Kind of expected, actually. Plus, everything about the way movies like this are filmed and presented is constantly improving, so take whatever time it needs. I'll be happy to return whenever they get around to finishing a new one.

Let the illogical, nonsensical, hyperbolic hatefest begin! lol

After the 14 hour long original do we really need a part 2?

nod OH HELL YEAH WE DO!

I'm looking forward to seeing more of Pandora and hopefully it won't be "humans come back for more" for the second. I hope that they find something unique for the 2nd and 3rd films...something with Jake having a big impact on the future of Pandora (being the "chosen one" and all that).

Then again, I had no problem sitting through the weeklong (lol) Lord Of The Rings trilogy and still wanting more.

The storyline and the look of it was awesome, even without the 3D. Even though I have seen it in the movies, I can't help but, watch it on cable when it comes on. This is a movie, that was MADE to be looked at in, HD....Even without the 3D.....

Messing about with frame rates? How is that going to help him? Sounds very odd.

I was totally unimpressed by Avatar, and I agree with those who compare it with Ferngully and Pocahontas. The new agey stuff was really corny and a lot of the hidden politics of it irked me. Plus I'm one of those who think 3D is unnecessary and distracting.

He can delay Avatar 2 for as long as he wants. Hopefully it'll free up time for other, better projects.

hmm

There definitely was an underlying theme of environmental responsibility and native rights, et. al. - but comparing it to Ferngully and Pocahontas is trivializing it.

Do you beleive that a sci-fi movie can't or shouldn't incorporate such themes?

Why does that irk you?

question

I do agree with you though, that 3D is unnecessary and distracting. nod

Everything he hates about is are the same things I loved about Avatar.

I hope part 2 is as good as part 1.
