Pochacco

Make a difference.do something kind for a stranger...

I did something most out of character for me,maybe that paints me in a bad light but think of me what you will.

Im usually one of those people that look uncomfortably at the ground when approached by beggars in the street. The other day I was just walking around the mall, looking to see if there was anything I could buy,I didnt need anything,I dont need anything.

A woman came up to me and asked me for some money, she looked dirty and sad almost as if she had given up,lost faith in other people. After watching several people just ignore or verbally abuse her I felt that I had to do something to help her.

She wanted money and not knowing what she wanted the money for, assuming it was either drink or drugs I automatically said no,she looked to the ground and started to walk off.

I went after her and started speaking with her,she told me about her life, how it was great then things went badly wrong for her and thats how she ended up on the streets with all her posessions that she owned that were in her plastic bag.

We chatted a while longer,I asked her to come with me. Initially she refused flat out not trusting me but eventually she agreed. So we went and I brought her a hot meal and a cheap overcoat from a charity store that only cost me a few £'s.

To think that any of us could one day find ourselves in this situation, would we want other people to turn their backs on us,look at us as if we were dirt?

For the first time in a very long while I felt that I had done something worthwhile that matters.

Please dont think that I am telling you this because Im patting myself on the back in a self congratulatory way.I just wanted to share the great feeling I had when helping someone,it was far more rewarding than wondering aimlessly around a mall looking to buy things to make me feel better .

I seem to be changing as I get older, maybe for the better

Much love yes Pochacco

sad smile This is so nice from you I could kiss you for Pochacco. You made not only her day, you did give her, special with your interest, also for the warm meal and the coat. You did gave her like that even something much more valueful: A little HOPE in a grey world. I'm sure that helps to bring again light in her life and power to go on.

Thank you! Thank you very much you did it! I love you! - If there where more of your kind... humanity would deserve the name HUMAN being!

Cool, Pocha...here is something else...
Even when people look as though they have it all together.
They may be ragged inside...in the heart,
So let's be kind to them also...a smile, a bright hello...
a kind word of encouragement...costs no money, but may be priceless!
So...how's everybody doing? smile

Nice one. To be honest, I rarely take an interest in people I don't know. So when beggars ask for money I either say 'sorry, I have none on me' or give them some money. But to take time to talk to someone and help them out like that I think is amazing. God bless you.

I've never really donated to a real homeless person before.

When I go to see the Reds play baseball, there's usually a man outside the stadium that stands around playing a saxophone. It always sounds so nice, I throw money in his sax case. $5 or so. I have no idea about his financial position, and don't really care. I just like the music.

A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti...

A devout Christian ex-boyfriend of mine told me once that God didn't want us to tell a soul about any charity we give, because that not why you should do it, etc., and that you will be rewarded in heaven,

If Heaven exists, than this sounds very true and is a good way to look at it. But I know it's not evil to share stories. When I had my ex-girlfriend visiting from British Columbia last year, we stayed in a hotel room for almost a week, and had a box of granola bars, bananas, and a six-pack of ginger ales leftover. We gave it to a man on the way to the airport and he kissed us on the forehead! You can't feel better about being alive and happy at times like those.
Oh shit, my hat done fell off

RESPECT worship

Your money , lunch and coat counted second that day to your respect, compassion and time given of yourself.

Aw, the humanity of it!

not forget to help them whom doesn't do ask for money... there are homeless people they would NEVER ask somebody for anything. They need PROACTIVITY from the society.

Well done Pochacco. That was very generous of U. hug

If a street bum approaches me 4 sum money I do usually give sum 2 them...
But its usually cuz of how guilty they make me feel not because of how truly kind I am...

I am a kind person really, its just that I very rarely have any money 2 give.

When/if I get a job Im gonna be nice 2 all of them.
