Human Nature? I Think Not

What is everyone fighting for? Really?

I don't believe human nature inspires humans to fight for everything, I think we've been cultured to fight with each other.

Can't we all just get along? Or no?

I thought my line of work brought out the worst in people and recently I've begun delving into a completly different kind of activity where I thought people would be cool, laid back, etc. but NO, people are scrapping over scraps!

Where does such behavior come from?

It all started back when monkeymen first started using bones as weapons.
Like in that one 2001 movie.

To some extent it probably is an innate part of human nature to be needlessly aggressive. Notice that a lot of time when there is no conflict people go out of their way to create some.

Having said that, it's no excuse. The thing that separates us from animals is the fact that we have more brainpower as well as a conscience and the ability to think before we act and control our actions.

Which isn't to say I'm a total cynic and think humanity is doomed - on the contrary I've seen too much good in other human beings to ever make a statement like that. I just wish people would choose to act in a truly positive manner more often than a negative one.

I remember that movie and yes they did start fighting with bones; it was terrible (the fighting, not the movie).

I am resigned for the coming year to not allow such foolishness to enter my world...we'll see what happens! Nonetheless, thanks for the good wishes.

Thanks for steering me to the video -- had no idea Al Jarreau had a son and a talented one at that -- I love it.

I think its safe to say that SOME people go out of their way...that's my point, I think it really comes down to choice. You can elect to be aggressive or chose a different path. That is what separates us from the animal kingdom our brains give us the power to distinguish between smashing someone over the head with a bone or not.

Too often people chose the easy way out rather than compromise, communication, etc. and instead chose conflict. I suppose in the prehistoric days the stronger troglodyte won, so there we stand?

this is exactly the nature of humans.

humans are by nature pettie things, that

have to be taught to be different (peaceful)

that's why religions were so easy to put on folks.

humans are the only (were the only) truly distructive

creatures on earth and will distroy the eatrh for the sake

of their own whims.

HUMAN NATURE, it is whut it is

Well there's survival of the fittest in the animal kingdom. But we're taking it to a whole new level. You're convinced that IS HUMAN NATURE rather than conditioning?

I don't. I think its conditioning. If it were human nature there wouldn't be societies who commune void of aggression.

survival of the fittest, is nature

someone once said that you have to teach a baby violence, not true

you have to teach a baby to NOT be violent

places that are void of aggression have no children,

people go there already grown. there is no human society

void of aggression, it a religious stuggle. something to

aspire to as a world, or a people.

harnony between humans and the world about them

that is the thing that takes 'conditioning'

humans will say that distruction is needed in order

to advance the world, BUT whut have they done.

when human nature is overcome, would be soldiers

will simply say "this i cannot do" but it's human nature

to feel pride in wanting to kill for glory. or even just fight for it.

we start out only fighting, then we learn to kill.

then we learn how to rationalize our killing.

this is the nature of humans

Without making this a P&R thread, It is the 7 deadly sins that causes fighting and violence. The 7 are the conditioning not inherent but learned behaviors:

Wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, gluttony.

Children do not posess these behaviors until taught them.
