no more Hotmail through Outlook Express?

I just recently stopped being able to download my mail from hotmail through outlook express. Has something changed? Anyone know anything about it? Anyone having the same problem?

It keeps asking for my username & password, even though they're already in the authentication boxes. neutral

HELP!

I can't say for certain but many of the free email sites now want you to pay for POP service.

hotmail.com and msn.com are still free...some of the other companies, like yahoo.com are now charging for this service, so you won't be able to access it by way of outlook express...

Hope this helps.

Oh fair enough... if it is still working for everyone else, it must still be free. What problem are you having with it Aaron? I don't suppose there have been any changes to the setup (e.g. do you need to use SSL now or something).

i reformatted my hard drive and had my computer repaired. but that was a few weeks ago. it's worked since then. then it just stopped. it started asking me for my username & password, even though they were already correctly entered. neutral it sucks. i hate hotmailing through the web

Hmm I don't use Hotmail myself but that doesn't look right... why is your POP3 server set to servises.com? That's not Hotmail is it?

You might want to check (go to the Accounts page and check the incoming / POP3 server) and make sure that entry is the correct one for Hotmail (whatever that may be... mail.hotmail.com or whatever it is supposed to be (check Hotmail support page).

If you are using OE 6 (or even 5.5) check the Identities page and make sure server type is HTTP and server URL is http://services.msn.com/s...tpmail.asp

or something like that (found that from a google)

Yeah, and it seems to be on every spammer's distribution list. sad It's probably because I used to have MIT's FAQ server automatically post FAQ's to alt.music.prince "from" matt@prince.org.

Every day it seems as if I get one of those "Nigerian scam emails"... you know, the ones where somebody from Nigeria claims that they need to wire millions of dollars out of their country, and want to use my bank account in exchange for giving me a cut of the money. I decided to play along with one of them and asked the sender for a cashier's check, drawn a U.S. bank, in the sum of one million dollars, as an advance on my "fee" and a show of his good faith.

He replied by asking for my telephone number and fax number so we could discuss the "deal" further. I gave him the numbers for the federal government's office in Washington that investigates these Nigerian scams. smile
