Probably depends if you were sick with it already. Otherwise it's a mystery because some people who bareback (straight, gay, bi, etc.) don't get HIV. Or maybe he's a drug addict. Drug addicts can get HIV too.

I read an article earlier this year about how there are people that are immune to it. They found it out by giving a bone marrow transplant to a person with HIV and they mysteriously no longer tested positive for it. It's all so fascinating!

Oh really? Weird... So after 30 years, no one knows how it develops still? Maybe sex and drugs are not enough for it to be there... I mean, Ryan White had it as a child as did some other girl - I forgot her name - a black girl that had it.

You have no idea how hard it is to find even a VACCINE for HIV, let alone find a complete cure. Why? Because HIV is a highly mutatable virus that can QUICKLY develop resistance to w/e defences or drugs administered to fight them. Natural selections happens quicker with viruses because they reproduce faster.

There are cases where HIV was completely eradicated from patients with the disease (I've only heard of two successful cases) , but they are very invasive and potentially fatal procedures (i.e think eradicating all your white blood cells followed by a complete bone marrow transplant) and are still not approved safety wise in many developed countries, including the US.

For those living with HIV in the US, there are therapies, both pharmacological and non-pharmacological, to help keep the condition under control and help them lead healthy, productive lives. But of course...you don't hear about that very often, do you?

To think that all the hard work and toil being made to control this disease is being ridiculed on this thread is infuriating. I'm studying to help these people. To suggest that people in my profession are withholding a potential cure is insulting.

The reason why HIV is still more prevalent than it should be is because not enough people get tested, and there is not enough understanding or empathy for people who have the disease (i.e some people still think it's a "gay man's disease" or a "curse" for the sexually promiscuous). Change the mentality surrounding the disease, the more strides we'll take to controlling it and God willing, find a cure.

As far as the guy who was KNOWINGLY spreading HIV...I hope he goes to jail for a long time and given psychiatric therapy. The man's a psychopath..

^ Well the intolerance needs to stop. It was debunked long time ago that AIDS was a "gay man's disease"... I think the reason there's no cure is because money would have to be given to produce one and they don't wanna do that so people who have it have to find ways to survive. I'm sure it's hard to find the vaccine but these fuckers are making it harder to find one... I don't know how my wording on it is "infuriating". I can't speak for Timmy but I can assure you that I do not feel anyone in your profession is withholding a cure. It's the government that I don't trust. I think that was the point that was trying to be made. I have a lot of respect for anyone putting their time, money and effort researching this or any disease.

What I found infuriating is you were implying a generalization that all researchers or Health Care Professionals are intentionally witholding a cure because it's not profitable.
