LOVE live theatre.

The touring company of B'way's LaCage revival is at Kennedy Center sometime soon (I've got the clipping up on my fridge). Hoping to catch that.

Haven't been to a Broadway show (on Broadway proper) since Wicked opened and Taboo!

I read that Kristen Chennoweth might play Tammy Faye in an upcoming musical. I'd LOVVVVVE to see that.

2012 is the year of broadening my horizons.

Seriously, isn't Theater a part of being a well-cultured person? Like I said, at this age I've seen a total of 3 shows.

It's not like I'm heading to the Opera any time soon.

fishslap for good measure.

Is that what you're calling it these days?

I've only seen one show on Broadway, called The Tap Dance Kid, which originally starred Alphonso Ribera. It was really good, but has obviously not proven to be a classic.

But in LA I did see Evita and The Pirates of Penzance. Probably saw others, but I can't remember at the moment.

And last month I saw something called The Wild Bride, which was like Broadway, but smaller.

I see why people would not like musicals, but I think they are great for what they are. I haven't seen too many, but they are huge spectacles. It is great to see so much talent and effort and organization come together.

Like Chocolate1 said, i'd rather see a concert.

I don't mind them.... I've seen quite a few in the West End but only usually because someone else has booked them for me. The only one i've actually booked to see myself was Thriller because I knew my kids would like it.

I cannot bear to watch musical films though. shake

I love a good, smart, fun musical, and have been a part of many at the local level. Not so much into the classics (R&H, etc), but am a total devotee of Sondheim.. Got to do "Assassins" this past year and it kicked my ass in very good ways biggrin I got the two Sondheim "hat" books for Christmas this year and am loving digging into those!

I'm currently doing a show by Andrew Lippa called "John and Jen," which is billed as a "chamber musical." Sort of in the vein of Jason Robert Brown's stuff. Ive been telling people who aren't familiar with it to imagine if Nicholas Sparks wrote a musical.. Very chick flick story. Beautiful and complex music, though..

I've only seen two musicals in NYC... One classic, "Les Mis," and one newer piece, "Urinetown," which is one of the smartest and funniest plays I've ever seen. Definitely worth checking out!

Thanks for starting this thread!

I tend to like them better than movies. Though I don't get to see them as often as I'd like. Nothing like Broadway spectaculars here, but a lot of playhouses around. Maybe that should be one of my resolutions.

Oddly, enough that was the first musical I saw on Broadway. It was weird because they had woman playing men who dressed up as women. Not my cup a tea, but have fun.

Yeah...Imago already slapped me with a pink purse. disbelief

I saw "Phantom" with the ex about 14 years ago.

My last show was "Chicago", post 9/11 when tickets were being discounted to "bring people back".

shrug

So do I lose "man-points" with this endeavor then??? confuse

One of the worst fights Sweetie and I ever had was over going to see Phantom in London. He loves that show, while I think anything involving Andrew Lloyd Webber is barf

My feelings? Not if you go with a chick and order beer from the bar...lol

But this sense of needing to feel "cultured" seems off to me....I'm mid 40's, I know what I like, and cavier ain't it. lol

Ultimately, we're just giving you a hard time over nothing...if you want to go, I'm not begrudging that decision (it's your purse). lol

Exactly the kind of production I was saying I don't like. And too many others have tried to copy him.
