I'd never heard of him before reading this post, so I don't know if he's funny or not. But I just happily gave Louis CK my $10.00 because I really like the way he thinks!
I was all set to give him $5.00 for his generosity and selflessness but I had to buy it twice after clicking the BUY THE THING button and seeing this:
It just made me think of what my Grandmother used to say, "Baby, you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar but don't hesistate to swat one that bites you!"
. [Edited 12/22/11 19:45pm] I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I just wish guys on Wall Street would say that having a million dollars is just wrong. Not even my lefty ass would give it all away.lol All you others say Hell Yea!!

Well, we don't know what others would do for charity because some people prefer to give in secret, not for show.

not rAndom...they's "buddies" kinda...have worked on projects together...like pootie tang...i believe he was also a writer on The Chris Rock Show.

I do too. | |

Yeah they're friends. Still don't understand the mention of him though.
But that's a really good gesture from Louis. I like his stand-up.

I was thinking the same thing. How do we know Chris hasn't given away this much or more to charity?

Absolutely | |

No really only gave away $280,000 to charity. Why count production costs and salary for his staff and the price of a surgery (or whatever it is) in the million dollars?

Yeah, I read it the other day as he had made a million dollars (already) from selling the product independently, which is pretty cool.
But deciding to give away a quarter of it (to charities suggested by fans) and give another quarter to the people who work for him as bonuses is even cooler.
Based on his humor/writing, Louis doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who does something for show. He didn't release a statement about any of this. Somebody caught wind of the fact that he was VERY succesfully distributing this product on his own and contacted him.

Sounds like a pr move. Why not say he gave away a quarter mill to charity? Getting surgery and giving your employees a bonus isn't really a charitable move. I guess i gave 40k in charity to rent and acura last year This one's for the rich, not all of 'em, just the greedy
The ones that don't know how to give

Whut a guy whutaguywhutaguywhutaguy... now that's the truth of charity you didn't even ask a tax deduction for all that... bet you he did...

Y'all some haters. Seriously.
This is what he posted on his website - ya know, the one where he chose to independently sell the special that he independently produced - on Dec. 21st.
hi. So it's been about 12 days since the thing started and yesterday we hit the crazy number. One million dollars. That's a lot of money. Really too much money. I've never had a million dollars all of a sudden. and since we're all sharing this experience and since it's really your money, I wanted to let you know what I'm doing with it. People are paying attention to what's going on with this thing. So I guess I want to set an example of what you can do if you all of a sudden have a million dollars that people just gave to you directly because you told jokes.
So I'm breaking the million into four pieces.
the first 250k is going to pay back what the special cost to produce and the website to build.
The second 250k is going back to my staff and the people who work for me on the special and on my show. I'm giving them a big fat bonus.
The third 280k is going to a few different charities. They are listed below in case you'd like to donate to them also. Some of these i learned about through friends, some were reccomended through twitter. That leaves me with 220k for myself. Some of that will pay my rent and will care for my childen. The rest I will do terrible, horrible things with and none of that is any of your business. In any case, to me, 220k is enough out of a million.
I never viewed money as being "my money" I always saw it as "The money" It's a resource. if it pools up around me then it needs to be flushed back out into the system.
The thing is still on sale. I hope folks keep buying it. If I make another million, I'll give more of it away. I'll let you know when that happens because I like you getting to know what happened to your 5 dollars and bringing awareness to the bla bla bla.
Okay I really gotta go now. Thank you again. I will now stop bugging you. I really hate being in the news this much so I'm gonna just disappear for a while.
Happy hollidays.

As I already mentioned, he didn't make press releases or ask for any attention. People noticed what he was doing and started reporting on it.
