Fitness Thread

The other thread can't be posted on anymore it seems, so I'm making another razz Please share any goals and tips and routines and things here smile

I've been working out pretty regularly for 2 months now after being banned from anything other than walking for a really long time because of my health problems. While I haven't been losing the extra weight I want to get rid of very easily ( neutral ), I've definitely noticed a huge improvement in my strength and I'm starting to see and feel the changes in my muscles and it pleases me cool Shoot, not that long ago, I couldn't even lift myself up if I laid down on my stomach and now I can do the gat dang plank for a minute and a half. I feel awesome! biggrin

There is one goal of mine that I can't seem to conquer as of yet though and that is doing pullups. I'm so intimidated by the machine at the gym so I avoid it there. I have monkey bars in my backyard and I went back there to try to do them and totally failed neutral lol . I don't know if I should just keep trying to do that or if there are other exercises I can do to help? Anyone have any suggestions? I'm determined to do this evil

Ugh! Losing weight is getting frustrating for me! I have increased my calories by 500 and lowered them by 500 and I am still the same weight, how is that possible! pout I am still only doing cardio but I thought decreasing calorie intake by 500 meant 1 lb loss a week!

It's all about

a) Routine, you must love the exercise, when you love it, you'll also love to feel the

b) Pain (No Pain, No Gain)

personally, I feel at home when I'm at the gym...a couple of hours almost every day...paradise...hot people, no bad habits...

I know how you feel. I know it's not good to drop under a certain amount of calories but it feels like no matter what I do diet wise, my weight doesn't budge! lol I think the combo of being inactive for so long and my hormones being out of whack because of my ovarian problems and on top of that, having IBS, messed me up with that sigh It was driving me nuts, so I won't weigh myself anymore and just take my measurements instead. I'm just trying to eat healthy and I'm focusing on lifting and building muscle at this point.

I hate gyms. Not because of the painful exercise you do there but because of all the steroid-pumped idiots hanging around, the stench of sweat, the waiting around to use a certain machine, etc. Luckily when I moved into a new apartment two years ago, it turned out that the building has a small gym and there's almost never anybody there! I'm not even exaggerating; I've been going there twice a week for a few months now and there might have been somebody there once or twice during that whole time. Other than that, I'm completely alone, can play my own music etc. It's as if I was some kind of billionaire with a private gym.

So anyway, I am starting to get results, although not as fast as I used to a few years ago. I have to work a lot harder these days and the most difficult thing is to lose belly fat. My body is way happier adding muscle than burning fat (despite doing 80% cardio and 20% weights) so if I don't watch out I'll end up with a beer belly shaped like a six-pack, lol.

Still on my stationary bike, it hasn't cost me a penny outside of my initial purchase, I can do it whenever so I don't care if it's not ideal or exciting, it's something I stick with and it shows, not as drastically as I'd hoped, but it's working, tightening up all over. There are results in other areas of my life, I tend to much more even-tempered and mellow and at night I'm out like a light.

I assume that by "machine" you're referring to the dip/pullup assist?

Everyone uses it at my gym. USE IT!!! The more weight you add, the easier it is to peform the pull up. Do it for a while, and before you know it you'll be lowering the weight assist. After a while, you'll be doing them with NO assistance!

I love wide-grip pull-ups. It's a MUST if you want a big back. I do sets of 10(without added weight) and sets of 6(with weight). My goal is to do them with a 45lb. weight. I'm getting close.

In addition to the 75 lbs I have already lost, I want to lose another 50 pounds. I never really thought about all the extra weight i was carrying around because it really didn't matter to me: I was still Ivy. But, I have noticed that I feel tons better being smaller.

I've been doing the assists for a while and have managed to get TWO unassisted pullups.

pout

My goal is to get to do three sets of 10 completely unassisted.

I have neglected my body due to a two week vacation, lots of work related duties and a terrible cold with a bad cough that I somehow caught last week but today I just HAVE to go back to the gym again.

Just packed my gym bag, put some whey powder into my shaker, and will go out in a few minutes.

I feel sick if I don´t go to the gym at least twice a week. And I am more serious about it these days, so ....bye bye folks. wink

I used to do at least twenty when I was younger and lighter but haven´t done them routinely in a long time. I do them occasionally and can´t do more than 8 or ten, sometimes just 7, but I weigh at least 40 pounds more these days, so it´s ok. ( Most of it is muscles, not fat, but still....I have to do them regularly again because like UptownNY said, they are essential for a strong back and for testosterone production since the latissimus is a HUGE muscle, and therefore good for testosterone production).

Bye bye...the gym is calling. wink

I really want to start exercising since I think I have fallen into a bit of a rut with fitness... I don't feel comfortable in my body lately since my job entails so much sitting at a microscope all day dead

Went to a yoga class last night for the first time in quite I while, and it made me really motivated to get moving!

If you will, so will I

I switched from pills to insulin shots a couple weeks ago and it's been tough getting the dosage right, which has screwed with my workout schedule.

But on the other hand, I did go to the gym one time last week and found that I weighed more than I ever have - 197.1 pounds. I've never weighed 200 and I think I can get there!

I don't know why I want to hit that weight, but I do. Probably because I was skinny as a rail for most of my youth.

I have steadily been loosing weight. I am around 216 but had hoped to be below 200 for January 1st. Unless I go a bit faster that may not happen.

I dance.....everyday....for 2-3 hours...

And I watch my eating to the point of obsession. I miss jogging though...but it's freaking cold outside and I can barely breathe. neutral

Very rare for me to eat fruits, I have also cut out most breads, rice and pastas. I get my carbs mostly from vegetables.

Are your workouts varied? Try increasing the amount of cardio you do, change your workout, or add some resistance training. Your body may have gotten used to the amount of exercise you do, so you need to do more.

Also, if you exercise every day, try taking a break for one day. I'm not trying to lose weight, but I've noticed that when I haven't exercised for a day and exercise the next day, I actually lose some... That might just be me though. shrug

I don't know if I look all that different from my starting weight of 250 but I feel different. I think after the holidays I will add some type of workout besides walking. I am 5'3" and would like to get down to the size that Valerie Bertinelli and Jennifer Husdon were before they started their weight loss program, lol. I like having a bit of roundness to me, but I don't want to be a borderline diabetic or have high blood pressure. So my goal is some sort of fat/healthy point. Size 10 or 12 is the smallest I want to go.
