My best friend gave me $50 so I could by the Urban Decay Naked2 palette once it's back in stock. It was totally unexpected and totally unncessary but I appreciate it very much.

My mom and dad must have been reading my cooking blog because my dad got me a hand mixer and my mom got me a double boiler, two things I wished I had during my Christmas cooking extravaganza.

I've heard lots of good things about that Urban Decay palette. smile

I think my favourite gifts were a family heirloom in the form of an engraved brass cup that my great-great-grandfather used to eat soup out of at the steel mill where he worked, and a beautiful painting on proper canvas by my 2½-year-old niece. I also got nice clothes, cds, money, and a bunch of other things.

My sister goes to medical school and loves unique items so among other things I gave her an antique electric shock machine from 1902. It was integrated into an oak box, so it looked really nice too. My mom also got an antique; a beautiful very large wooden butler's tray from the early 1900s. So I guess if there was a theme to the gifts I gave, it was that they were unique and old.

I think the original poster should have made clear their intentions. What was the best TANGIBLE HOLD IT IN YOUR HANDS PRESENT that somebody gave you. But whatever. lol

I actually like everything I was given since it was all stuff from my list, but I'm pretty jazzed on this Tolkien Companion and Guide set. It's hard to put down because so many of the entries are so small that you can read a page (or a tenth of a page) and not have to worry about sitting there reading for a long time.

Will you use the brass cup or will it be on-show?

lol Well... I was thinking about stuff that was actually unwrapped. But maybe that's because I get plenty of people-time all through the year.

I understand that it's not the same for everyone though.... i'm happy for everyone to interpret the question however they want.

I don't think I'll use it. It's probably not the most sanitary thing to use for food anyway. But I'll definitely have it on display. Especially since there are a bunch of stories attached to it. For example it originally came with a lid, but that was broken off when he was attacked during a strike at the mill. The reason for the attack was that he couldn't afford to participate in the strike since he had an unusually large family to feed, and the other workers weren't happy that he kept on working.

I know it's just an emoticon but I still appreciate your response. You know how it is to write here on the Org; we usually don't get any comments and it's easy to start to wonder if the posts even get read at all. So thanks. smile

Wow! That's awesome. What a great item to pass down the generations.

I can't pick a fave. LOVED everything.

Although I think the most touching though was the gifts that my Ex Father in law dropped off for us on Christmas Eve. They were obviously regifts but it was way sweet that he got something for me the new hubby and our spawn.

Also my hubby filled my stalking with wheatgrass, which was sooooo sweet, cuz it shows he pays attention to what I REALLY want. Thoughtful.

I've reached in darkness and come out with treasure
I layed down with love and I woke up with lies
Whats it all worth only the heart can measure
It's not whats in the mirror but what's left inside

I actually do really think it's "cool" for you to appreciate antiques that way.

I'm the type of person that holds on to things for sentimental value...so yeah it's VERY cool. nod
