Question for the chefs out there!

i just took some chicken out of the fridge. unpacked it and it had a funny smell. I washed it down and the smell was gone. It expired dec 25.

am I risking it by still cooking it or should i throw it out?

I agree wholeheartedly. With poultry, especially if it smells farty - like a bad egg. No need to risk some nasty food poisoning.

If it expired on December 25 and you did not freeze it, especially if it smells gross, throw it out. The grocery stores are pretty spot on with chicken and milk expiration/freeze by dates.

Yep! You don't want to mess around with meat that has not been frozen after the expiration date.

When in doubt throw it out. Trust me when youre lying in the tub with shit and vomit coming out of both places at once with a fever and the shakes you'll regret even thinking bout eating it.

nod

Chicken shouldn't smell eggy, funny, or anything except that faint fresh dead chicken scent. Anything stronger than that, and . . . I'm very glad you didn't end up with salmonella poisoning. It's exactly what lazycrockett described. disbelief
