I've read all those books- and if memory serves me correctly Maya wasn't a prostitute because when it came time to do the deed she chickened out. She did however become a pimp to an older lesbian couple; they were circling her like vultures and she flipped the script on them and became their "booker" to take their attention off her. If I recall correctly she would have them bathe themselves/their bodies with Pine Sol after each job...that's the way prostitutes tried to cut the germs back on the day.
