We have a RIGHT to have as many children as we want.

We have an OBLIGATION and RESPONSIBILITY to only have as many as we can support & raise.

Whether it's one child or an army of 20...if you can't bear the burden then you shouldn't be havin' them...but if you've got it covered, then no one has the right to tell you how many you can or cannot have.

...and for the record, I think that these people are out of their damned minds...

I don't know what to say about it. 20 children is a mind boggling number, but looking at the mom she looks healthy, and unhaggard, a lot of women can't say that after a couple, the children seem healthy except for 19 but even that seems to be coming along well. It's not ideal and I sure wouldn't consider it but given all the crappy stuff that people do to each other in the world, I'm not mad at them for what they committed themselves to.

I think it's a bit irresponsible in an overcrowded world, but there's no law against it

It must of been a freudian slip. I meant to say nobody should have that many kids. As far as the mother being healthy...she is 45. The last child was born low birth weight will all kinds of health problems. when is enough..enough. Is it fair to risk having more kids born with health problems just so she can break the record? ( ha ha...don't know her motives )

I see your point, honestly I do. But they are rather unique as people. I just see them as the exception as oppose to the rule, few people could pull that off, few people would want to. It isn't like they came right out of high school with little education, no world experience and just started popping out babies just because some preacher told them that's what they were suppose to do. They both have financial education, they were together as a couple a few years before they had their first child, they planned, are far more resourceful than most people and far more committed to what they have decided to do, behaviors they will be passing on to their children. I think the world would benefit with far more people like that in the world. They are smart people, very very different but smart.

I don't think they're out of their minds though. I used to until I watched some documentary on them that started from the time they courted and married up until child #17. It appears this is a loving and financially stable family where everybody works together for the good of the brood. I can't be mad at them for that especially when there are ne'erdowells out there who can't even hack one child. God bless their fertile asses! Nice to see Mrs. Duggard dispelling that myth about women being dried up at age 40. I don't know why doctors insist on scaring older women out of child bearing but then are all to happy to charge them 15-30K per infertility treatment. Its a damn racket IMO. I was just about to ask if all the baby havin' made her lady parts a little loosey goosey/beef curtain-like. However, didn't she have Preeclamsia when she had the last baby? Despite my feelings on all those kids, I would hate for them to lose their mother or for her to lose this upcoming baby due to serious complications.

Of course, she has a right to have all those kids but her body might tell her something else entirely different. I personally think she's taking "be fruitful and multiply" way out of proportion. But to each their own. If they can afford to do it without the state's help, more power to them. But I've always wondered if her older kids resent having to take care of the younger ones, and how they all get time with the mother.
