Your Ideal getaway for the Holidays (fantasy thread)

In the spirit of my recent threads...

...IF money, time & family were no issue...

WHERE would you like to spend the Holidays?

- Italy?

- Thailand

- Cancún?

- Safari?

question question question

Just here in the UK.... Maybe way up in Scotland. It would be nice to stay in a beautiful cosy cottage in the middle of nowhere with a huge open fire, surrounded by rolling hills - and lots of snow. I've been wanting this exact scenario for the last couple of christmasses and i'll do it one year.

Come on though...wouldn't you like to perhaps experience Christmas on a beach surrounded by palm trees at least once in your life?

I might be tempted to try it one year - i'm never one to turn down a beach holiday (vacation). biggrin

The festive season - to me - has always been about wrapping up warm, coming in from the cold, drinking mulled wine, a little bit of snow maybe.... I'm not sure a warm, beach christmas would feel right.

My friends are in EGYPT right now... pout ...which is what got me thinking about this.

I would like to spend Christmas in Honduras. I was there when I was 5 or 6 years old...basically on Christmas Eve they party & eat & party & eat until midnight, which is when all hell breaks loose out in the streets with people shooting fireworks & kids can open their presents. I mean...that's what I remember from 1975/1976...I don't know if it's changed much. But I would like to experience that again.

Then I'd like to see what it's like to spend Christmas somewhere truly "exotic" (for me at least) like Asia or Tahiti or something. Try different foods, see different customs...obviously it'd have to be somewhere with an established Christian presence otherwise it would be an unremarkable date, right?

lol

St. Barthélemy in the French West Indies

Paris, France

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

I dunno, somewhere tropical and beautiful.

However if must be a place that has a stable local economy and a government that takes care of it's own people. I refuse to go somewhere that has million dollar hotels and resorts but has little homeless children across the street begging for their next scrap to eat.

I feel the same so mostly I stay at local guesthouses and eat local when I travel so the money doesnt goes to big hotels like Best Western, Hilton and so on.

That's how I felt when I went to South Africa a couple of years ago. It's such a beautiful country, but it just didn't feel right to go shopping there and watch the poverty sigh. It's also one of the reasons why I never went to India even though my ex wanted to go.
