1. I have to track down a 70 year old Thai woman (not my mom) with an smoking/alchohol addiction that long ago wore off it's novelty and cuteness, and take her to a bus station on the other side of Bangkok so that she can get a ticket to go to the other side of Thailand to visit my mom, who does NOT want her to visit, but extended the offer to save face in front of my family who pities the woman. I've got to accomplish this 95% in the Thai language. lol

2. I ate Indian last night, so sometime today I must sit down on the porcelon thrown and release a steamy, hot, liquid stew of fowl smelling poo, most likely in a violent spray of gaseous discharge spackling the bowl upon which I sit. I'm not looking forward to it, but fear this is looming....Just hopefully the urge won't befall me while in the taxi with the drunk woman.

3. I need to book my train ticket back to Chiang Mai! excited

4. Need to stop in MBK and look for trainers, as some crazy Welshman friend of mine convinced me to run a damned marathon with him. falloff He's only been in Thailand 8 months and the fucker is better adjusted to the heat than me. I dread shopping at MBK. It's too big. And I don't like the toilets there. Since I'm almost certain item #2 on my list is going to happen, I pray it isn't at MBK.

5. I need to figure out my holiday schedule to be with my family. Honestly I HATE hanging out with my family and semi-resent having to spend my 40th birthday with them, and this new years with them. I feel almost like my best days are spent with them. It's a selfish feeling I will learn to regret over time. Love the ones you're with. I should reflect on this....hopefully not while I'm consumed by the events of item #2 on my list.

6. I need to tell some of you that I love you. Erin, I love you. bye hug

The day is coming to an end here, but it was Lucia today - a Swedish celebration of a saint, although it's mostly a celebration of light and song.

This is what the Lucia performances look like:

[img:$uid]http://i43.tinypic.com/vhqr0k.jpg[/img:$uid]

It's also traditional to eat special saffron buns on this day:

[img:$uid]http://blogg.annaskipper.se/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/anna-skippers-lussekatter-kopia.jpg[/img:$uid]

I saw a little 3-year-old dressed up as Lucia in the elevator of my building. She was really cute, and I told her that she was pretty. Her response: "I have a lizard and a frog in my pocket!". lol

I went to a Santa Lucia concert last year and my boss brought in saffron buns this morning.

Wow, that's interesting. You live in Chicago or Minneapolis, right? I guess the Swedish immigrants in that whole area have kept their traditions alive. It's quite amusing by the way that they travelled all that way across oceans and vast distances on land, only to settle for the part of the US with a climate that most resembles Sweden's. lol

Did you like the concert?

Erin,

Thank you...I had a test done last month, and my hearing in my right ear is real bad. When I lay on my left side, I can't hear a thing but high pitched noises. The Dr. talked about replacing the bones in my ear, so I go in today to see what the surgeon has to say. I am hoping doing that will work.

Bashed my car into my son's nursery teacher's car in that stupidly small carpark due to inconsiderate folk parking their vehicles exactly where THEY want & not in a proper parking space. Broke her tail light & was Stressed oot big time! All with gale force winds & hurtling hailstones. Yeah yesterday was a bummer but today has been better & brighter, thankfully.

Coincidentally, I made plans for dinner tonight at a Scandinavian restaurant here not even knowing it was a holiday. I just got an email from the restaurant notifying me there will be a special menu, free glass of glogg and Lucia girls singing carols.

[Edited 12/13/11 12:58pm]

Cool, good timing! Glögg is pretty good this time of year and I bet you'll love the singing. It's pure choir and very light and airy, like a caress of sound. Hopefully they will include some actual Swedish Christmas songs too, and not just English/American ones.

And if they don't give you any saffron buns, you should tell them that I demand that they give you some! smile

(they're called "lussekatter" in Swedish, if you want to score bonus points when you request them)

Dinner was very nice, but no lussekatter on the menu. confused This is the restaurant where I ate: http://www.smorgas.com/

The Lucia girls sang mostly in Swedish. My crappy cellphone pic of them:

No lussekatter? You should demand a refund!

Glad you seem to have enjoyed the singing. It looks like they've made a real effort to dress up and everything.

"Smörgås" means "sandwich" in Swedish, so it seems like the restaurant is more Swedish than Scandinavian.

I know, I feel cheated. lol

The name is Swedish definitely, but according to the website, the restaurants like to cater to all of Scandinavia on the menus.
