Water Everywhere!

I'm staying overnight at a couple's home because they are out of town, and wanted me to watch their dog. Everything was fine until I decided to take a shower in their bathroom. BIG MISTAKE!!!! Their bathroom faucets are unusual, in that they have two faucets that control the shower sprayer, and two faucets below that that control the water that goes into the tub. I could not get the water to turn off, because I was not sure which one of the faucets was still on. So I was turning and turning the faucets, trying to get them to turn off. Also, the drain was not working properly, so the water was filling up the tub quickly.

It got to the point where I had to call 911 in a panic, because the tub was now overflowing, and the water is also spilling into the kitchen directly below and into the basement. The cops finally came (after what seemed like forever for them to get here). It took them a few minutes to figure out how to turn the water off, but they were able to turn the water off that was flowing out of the bath tub. The cops told me that the water was completely turned off, and that I had no water in the house. They also told me to call a plumber in the morning. Truth is, I am able to get water to come out of the other faucets in the house, so they obviously didn't shut off the main valve.

I just spent a good 3 hours using towels to mop up the water on all three floors. There was a lot of water that came into the kitchen (in fact, it was coming down out of the kitchen light itself!). As a result, the wall in the kitchen is a bit pushed out at the top where the water was coming down. It's not a huge area, but I know that it's there. Plus, the wallpaper itself is a little bit apart at the seams from the water actually running down the wall. On the other side of the wall, there is a small section where the wallpaper is wrinkled, again from the water. The damage on the wall is definitely there, but it could have been worse, I guess.

I have a ton of wet towels that now need to be washed and dried, but that's the least of my worries. I absolutely DREAD telling my boss what happened. I think I'm going to take a picture of the bathroom faucets, so he knows what I'm talking about, and send him a text email, explaining the situation. I hope he doesn't get angry with me, because it was not done intentionally. Hopefully, he'll understand, and he won't fire me or something. boxed I also am dreading the people who I'm dog sitting for finding out what happening. I feel terrible about this whole situation, even though it was a stupid accident.

These things always seem to happen to me, and I don't know why they do. I feel like the queen of the fuck-ups. It seems like no matter how hard I try to do everything right, something ALWAYS goes wrong.

RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Awwwwww, Nancy, just call and explain. Like you said it was an accident! If there was something wrong and they didn't tell you, not your fault they have to know you might take a shower.

Could have been worse xoxoxo

Just went up into the bathroom to take a look, and that damn water is STILL sitting in the bath tub! It has not gone down at all. disbelief I honestly think there's a problem with the drain, because I have turned the knob that says "drain" on more than one occasion, and the water does not budge. Plus, I notice that they have a drain unclogger in that bathroom, which tells me that this might not be the first time that such a thing has happened.

RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

hug As it turns out, I wound up having to call 911 AGAIN, because there was cold water running from the faucet into the tub, and I could not turn it off! Two firemen came, and told me that I had a leak behind the wall, and there were wires there as well. Apparently, the plumbing was rerouted, but the plumber who did the work did not install shut off valves where they were supposed to be placed. disbelief I have to call my boss, because the fireman told me that the problem needed to be fixed. Never a dull moment in my life, I tell ya!!

lol @ the I Love Lucy episode. hug It definitely has been a nightmare situation, but luckily my boss and the homeowners are being very nice about the whole thing. I apologized, and they all said, "Don't worry about it, it's not your fault!" whew I know what you mean about crazy stuff happening, it seems to happen to me too.

I definitely am happy that no one is upset about it. The homeowner kind of laughed about it on the phone and said, "It's not your fault, these things happen".

hug Yes, definitely not my fault, thank goodness. whew

The couple's son and his wife were just here to look at the damage. They were going to call their father on his cell phone after they were done having a look around. They both said that the damage was not that bad, and it was not half as bad as what their father was envisioning it to be. Poor guy, he was very nice to me about it, but deep down inside he probably was panicked, worrying and wondering what the damage was going to be.

I'm sure it was very frightening and I know exactly how bewildering it can be when you have no one to turn to for help. But I'm sorry, this has to be said.

911 is for life and death emergencies exclaim

If you thought you were having a heart attack from the stress during the flood, call 911.

If you slipped in the water and hit your head and were afraid you might black out, call 911.

I send you hugs and understanding but this was NOT an appropriate use of 911 services.

I am surprised that they answered the call, not once but TWICE and did not ream you out.

Yellow Pages. Plumber. Look for ads that say "24 hour EMERGENCY call out service"

.
