I don’t want to move.

My company announced today that they are moving the entire IT shop out to a new building in the suburbs by the end of 2014. I hate the suburbs.

At least I have a few years to figure out what to do.

I was looking for a Random Thoughts thread, which was originally created (here) by insatiable3. I then stole that title to create More Random Thoughts. I've needed one the last couple days and the last one is closed.

For this one I wanted to use paraphrased Bible verse in the thread title. 'tis the season and all that. Took me way too long to figure out one I liked.

I was up all night, slept from 9:00 to 10:45 AM. Got up and poured a cup. Sat down at the computer. Opened email. Opened second tab to peruse myorg. First thing I looked at was this thread and in my fuzzy, half-awake state your response totally made me laugh. Proof that I should not Org until at LEAST the second cup.

Nope. Brooklyn Park. They're building 2 new buildings for us at our "North Campus".

We bought about another entire block of buildings downtown, I don't know why we can't just move in there.

Sleep may be overrated - sleep when you're dead and all that. That shit had to be started by young people. Because the older I get the more dead I feel when I don't sleep.

I read that as the neighborhood was called "Little El Salvador," not the actual El Salvador.

I cannot cook that stuff!!!! I really need to call my mother and schedule a cooking class. In my neighborhood no. they have Spanish style pork and such. I am Dominican and African American. My mothers side is from alabama, and I miss that style of cooking... Btw I didn't give my town that nickname... ppl who live here and ppl I tell where I live call it that.

Oh I did good... btw the above comment was not intended 2be taken as being sarcastic.. I just thought I didnt put in the word little.. thats all.. I dont want ppl 2 think im sayin that country dosent use pork and such. Its the seaonings that they use is what Im refering 2.

Yup - I totally missed the "little" in the original post.

Knowing how to cook is never a waste. I never wanted to cook when I was younger. I had a career, I wasn't supposed to have to cook.

Boy, was that ever a stupid notion.

Cerebus cannot imagine Genesia not cooking. The two just sort of go together.

The thing is, it's truer than you know. I eventually found out that my paternal grandmother worked as a domestic for most of her life - as a cook, specifically. She was an amazing cook. She died when I wasn't quite 5 and I can still remember the Sunday dinners she cooked.

A decade after she died, my mom and I were cleaning out my grandparents' apartment after my grandpa went to the nursing home, and she thought she'd finally get my grandma's cookbooks or recipe file (or whatever). Guess what? There wasn't a single recipe in the place. All that amazing food she'd cooked, came out of what was in her head. Everything she knew was lost.

Except for two dumpling recipes she'd written down for my mom right after she and my dad were married. I have a photocopy of them, my mom still has the original. I still remember how delicious her food was, but this is the only thing of hers I can actually make.
