On the flip side - name your favorite things about Christmas

The album A Charlie Brown Christmas is, hands down, my favorite thing about Christmas. I love that album enough to marry it. Every time I hear it, I want to be curled up on my couch with a mug of my "special" hot cocoa, watching snowflakes outside my window.

You?

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

My kids reaction to christmas. Everything about that.

And on a selfish note, being able to drink Champagne before noon and not getting dirty looks. biggrin

A few weeks ago, my niece was initiated into our sorority - on a Saturday morning. Her mom and I (being members of the same house) decided to be there for it. Well, they gave us the wrong time and we got there an hour early, so we headed to a restaurant downtown to grab a quick breakfast. It being Wisconsin and all, they had on the menu - not just a Mimosa, but a Man-mosa. A Mimosa in a pint glass instead of a prissy flute. Did we split one? We did not. We each had our own. (We split the apple fritter and double side of bacon, though.) lol

That initiation felt like old times, lemme tell ya. touched

The smells. Cinnamon and other spices and pine. People experimental baking. Woodfires. The crispness of the air. Stores filled with chocolates and other aromic stuff, yeah some of it's artifically staged but it still smells good.

Goodies. OH MA GAWD.

My neighbor just called to offer the seasonal cookie dough bin. 12 bucks, makes 4 dozen cookies. They taste sooo good on a cold day with a warm glass of milk. And I'll usually waddle to Wal-Mart to fill my seasonal snowman candy dishes with holiday-themed candies.

BAKING!

I'm trying to be a baking master like my grandmother. Though she's moved down South, I try to keep it traditional by baking something this time of year. I'm stepping my game up to a red velvet cake.

Scented candles...excited

I am a fool for those. Cinnamon and Wintergreen/Evergreen especially.

Sexin!

This one is rare. lol I just got off the horn yesterday afternoon with my neighbor about her "Nigel" sighting. She likes him for me, and I like him in the nude. Just nude though, not all touchy feely friendly. I need a new playmate... razz

The songs!

Can't sing worth a doggone, but I'll break out into the usual Yuletide classics and Soul renditions like I can. lurking

Gift reactions

A tad neutral in recent days, but my grandmother never fails to get excited over a gift from yours truly. This year, I'm giving children candy and gadgets. My dad dragged me to the store to get his gift early, and we're getting our Miss Pre-Teen (my 'sister') her first MP3 player.

TV... tv

WGN9 here in Chicago can be awesome on the weekends this time of year. They showed A Fat Albert Christmas Special, Little Drummer Boy, and Mr. Magoo's special all in one night around 2 in the morning until 5. Cartoon Network and Nick (I'm such a child! lol ) always keep it crackin' with their specials. My favorite is still the SpongeBob special. My cousin and I kept singing this song over and over again for three hours straight when the special first aired. I never will forget my aunt and grandma saying "shaddup, dang!" at the same time 'cause we drove them batshit crazy!

Reunions hug

One I find a fierce hair/head accessory, get my outfit together (I might kick it lady style and wear a dress this year!), it's usually time for the family Christmas party. This is when everyone sees everyone else. Since I'm the mousy hermit in the fam, everyone is soooo happy to see the kid. I clean UP this time of year. Makeup, body wash, candies, and a siiiiiick dinner plate for later. I also get nuts from my aunt, who is the holistic queen with the best tips for everything from natural hair to funky turquoise jewelry.

I've yet to drink on...oh wait, I do drink from time to time this year. lol I just don't drink around family because no one believes I'm twenty-freaking-six years old. eek I need to bring a flask of my own.

Its probably that snack. lol Its an unwritten law that it can only be made in December.

Otherwise, believe it or not, I do actually enjoy looking at the lights on peoples houses if they're not overdone.

I'll pick this too. Except this year my plans were almost foiled because we're getting a new telephone system, which they are installing that week. (Our office is closed, but the building we're in is open.) The other day my boss flips out b/c they are coming that week - I thought it was good b/c no employees would be in the way but I guess she wants someone there to make sure they don't wreck the place. (Even though it's a dump.) Luckily the IT person is going to come in.

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

My friend’s Xmas party is tomorrow. My bff Darin has hosted this party for years and years and as we’ve all gotten older I only see some of these friends at this party each year.

I always mull wine for the party, there are lots of yummy food and drinks and cookies and we play a fun gift game that is always a hoot. But mostly I just like catching up with everyone.

And that’s pretty much the same with my family. It’s just the familiarity and ease I feel when hanging out with them. It wasn’t always this way and I had a hard time getting along with my brother for many years. We’ve all mellowed, though, and now it’s actually quite nice.

2 week forced vacation.

Relaxing before the start of yet another "tax" season.

Sports..............and lots of it.

Folks seem 2 be in a better mood than the rest of the year.

When it's over. That's my very favorite part.

While we're in the season, I like the music from the Charlie Brown Christmas Special.

I really like Vince Guaraldi type piano music at Christmastime (love the Charlie Brown album of course). The sort of piano stuff the gradeschool music teacher plays at the kids' Christmas show, and the kids singing those innocent heartfelt songs - I'm a grown man, and I can hardly hold back the tears.

Linus' speech brings major waterworks. I have to watch that alone.

The light displays especially the big simplistic ones. I was driving home from work and saw 2 that made me smile.
