The Old-fashioned Life, and why I want to live it.

:
I have to say...looking at the times where women were home, getting laid, having children, cooking, cleaning, washing clothes, and taking care of her man would be a dream.

Why isn't this acceptible anymore?

I dream of a house in the country, and a simple life of love, children, and growing old together.

It would complete me.

Anyone here dream of this type of life?

sigh

It's only a dream...it isn't real...it's only a dream...it isn't real...

sad

Now why is this only a dream? I think there are plenty of men left who would like their woman to be at home taking care of the kids. Perhaps you don't like that type of men smile

So why wouldn't it be possible?

When talking in a group setting, it's fairly obvious that women are expected to work, and not be a full-time wife/mother...

I've not seen/heard men going after this type of life, maybe I just haven't met the type.

I don't want my wife/girlfriend to take care of the kids, she should take care of me, I'm still a kid really.

Then, I don't live in the country (anymore) either.

If I can dream:

Me + LaVisHh + hay-stack...maybe not, your 38 and I'm 21...shake

Do you have a daughter?

Don't care about what's expected, go for what you like to do.
Do you live in the country or in the city?

Nah...I don't know if men want to live this way, seriously. The notion is that women need to contribute financially, don't you think?

Most men will only see the 'get laid' part and fall for it.

See that might be the problem. In the city you meet mostly career type people. The coutry types are useually found... in the country. So move on out, into the country. Next weekend, take yer ol dpickup and move on out. Meet them nice people you're llooking for. Or somthing.

It's not that women didn't want that anymore, it's that they wanted a chance to be able to do something else if they wanted to...they wanted a choice.
But, considering that women still make only 70 cents on the dollar for what a man makes doing the same job with the same education/level of experience (actual statistics for the state of Michigan) things are still not where they should be.

It's that easy, eh?

You know, you may be right. I moved here to MPLS 10 years ago, from Hawaii, and the men here are very different. Maybe it really does go back to how we are raised.

This is sooo true, applekisses. This is another thing that bothers me...if I do work (and I do) it seems I get nowhere. neutral

Let's see, I was with you up to the part about cooking, cleaning, washing clothes...
(hubby and I share chores) smile

I must say it feels just wonderful when I drop the kid off at school and come back home
and have a cup of coffee and turn the pc on.

And I love the sound of my husband mowing the lawn on a Saturday morning while I do things inside
to beautify the home.
And the stars at night...simply beautiful!
The country? It has its ups and downs.

(Can you say septic tank?)
So...how's everybody doing? smile

It's oversimplifying to say that's the solution, although I actualy might have said something that's right (for which I apologize).
But I think in the country you might find Mr. Right, wheras in the city you've got a bigger change of finding Mr Right-Now.

There's a lot to be said for the simple life smile

I was in the west of Ireland last year, in County Clare. Man I was blown away by how nice it was... two thirds of the country is busting their arses to live in the big city (Dublin) paying crazy money for rent and mortgages... and yet you could have a great life on the other side of the country with fresh air, big cheaper houses, and a more mellow pace of life. You should check it out LaV!

Unfortunately I'm a total city urchin... I like the noise and bustle of big cities. However, living in cities has an adverse affect my health, breathing, blood pressure etc so I reckon I'll go rustic in my later years biggrin

As for women staying at home and managing the household, having babies etc... nothing wrong with that, it's a very admirable thing to do. I'm all for it! The traditional roles exist for a reason (they work) and there's nothing wrong with people who still want that.

There is a reason, that Sex & The City was shot in a city, and that it's not Sex & The Countryside. It may actually be harder to get the right partner in the city.
