LaVisHh said: I'm a little afraid, Sataninas...as I have never been outside of the US. Why be afraid? Important is to go organized and with a clear head. And to know why you will left your country and why will you go there (last must not been so relevant). Of course, sometimes you may miss your loved ones, places and habitudes. Yes sometimes you'll miss them all. Thiswhile it is important to make a plan. The first steps, weeks, month. What will you do? - And look forward! It is so beautiful also to been at a foreing place and to learn known a diffrent way of living. That can make our horizont wider and maybe become toleranter to understand other points of view, religions, traditions, or simple humanity. And so also learn more about ourself. LaVisHh, am I to dramatic? - another may see that diffrent. This are the experiences I'm making. Would be nice to hear from others. This is a wonderful thread ~ it is great to hear about so many palces in our world. LaVisHh ~ I made a very purposeful decision in the early 70's to create chage in my own way. After two arrests for protesting the Vietnam War it was clear to me that first, being in jail was not my idea of a good time and second that we were ineffective against the political machine. Where ever you decide to live, your intellect and strength ~ your commitment to your beliefs and your willingness to affect positive change in your own way will be what counts in the end ~ and what will bring your happiness. Thank you for the intriguing question!!! I lOVE this thread!!!

i know a few people from the states that have moved out there and loved it. Much more laid back and politically progressive. It is BEAUTIFUL and dont forget the accent I LOVE the Australian accent! I remember when I was once working at a convenience store and was ringing up a customer's purchases. He had a really great accent, and I asked him where he was from. Where else? Australia! I would love to visit Australia sometime, I think it would be a great place to see. It would be cute to see kangaroos hopping around all over the place too - lol! Okay, I admit it, I like kangaroos. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

It might sound scary, going somewhere that is strange to you, but in the internet days, it's easier to stay in touch with the people you know, so you're never alone.
and YES! Marry the European guy!!! It's good to plan, but don't over-plan, cuz things are never what they seem to be, and your plans will change anyways. Good luck to you, I know you don't need it, cuz you're the luckiest already. [This message was edited Fri Feb 21 18:34:02 PST 2003 by MissCute] _______________________________

No, you are not dramatic, you are passionate about your feelings, Sataninas, and that is wonderful. I totally agree with you about expanding my horizons and the many cultures and traditions that would come my way as a result of moving. I've done it before, I live 3,000 miles from my closest relative - not counting my daughter.

As some of you know already, I did... for LOVE
I didn't do it for a job, or a green card, or money or any of the reasons that people here leave the country. I did it for LOVE (and I don't regret it) It was hard leaving my business, my career, my friends and family.. but it was even harder giving up some of the freedoms you have in the USA. Before I even became a citizen here (israel) the country did everything they could to block my entry, we had to take the country all the way to the supreme court for 3 months. Despite all the racism, bombings, and everyday challenges.. I kept a good sense of humor through it all. And the fun, the good times, the warmth people have here is unlike anywhere else i've lived.

If there was a "NEW ATLANTIS" would you move to it?
When I was a child I allways had this vision of a "new continent" rising out from the sea and people from every nation started a new world. called "PEACE". SingMia

DO IT.
Regardless of how "difficult" it may be to arrange, despite the "culture shock" you will eventually go through.. living in another country will reap more rewards to you than you could possibly begin to count. I did it not too long ago, & I'm revving up to do it again. There are many positive things about this United States country, but really, there is certainly a whole other amazing world outside these borders.. you only have to go there to know there. I'll see you tonight..

Yeah, you're right.. I'd say do it if you're young. As you get older it gets harder. But there is one major downside to the rule that "you can always return home".. you may (in my case with New Englanders) find it hard to relate after several years away.
