I'm sorry for your pain, Erin. I don't mean it to say injustices will make perfect sense. I mean in general, as a catch all term for the constant annoyances or stresses that I have to deal with on a daily basis. Otherwise I wouldn't see a point in continuing...I by no way mean it as a fact. Just a saying.

No, no, you haven't offended me!
If someone sharing their beliefs were to offend me, then *I* should be the one apologizing. I was just sharing my feelings, as unattractive as they are.

Without trying to be too new agey or corny, I do beleive there is a power in the universe which helps guide and direct our lives. You may call it God, the Universe, Zon, Satan, dianetics, etc., but it does lead us to happiness and serenity if we choose to listen to it. However, because we are blessed with free will, we can choose to direct our own destiny, sometimes to our great benefit, and sometimes to our detriment.
While leads me to the whole religion thing. I think a lot of it was created to give something for the masses to belieive in when they couldn't explain what was happening around them, and most of these major religions predated scientific discovery. Like Chris Rock said, why to Jews and Muslims still refuse to eat pork as some kind of fantasic sin when it was obvious at the time that slaughtering pigs for meat during biblical times in 80 to 90 degree heat would cause it to go bad very quickly? We know how to clean it and store it in sanitary conditions now, so why is there still a prohibition on pork?
I think people got a really warped idea about the universe when the book The Secret was released. It took the concept of the universe and thought patterns guiding our lives and oversimplified it, making people think they could get amazingly rich and have a bevy of lovers at their disposal just by thinking positive thoughts. While it's a good idea to think positively about improving your life, you still have to take action to make that happen. And it's not that easy to do. You have to overcome a lot of negative pre-programming of your subconscious beliefs. For instance, you may think to yourself, "I'm going to lose 30 pounds in two months, but if you keep subconsciously craving that triple cheeseburger with the biggie fries and a pint of Ben and Jerry's ice cream, your thoughts will conflict with each other and sabotage your desires.

I don't believe in destiny, a guiding force, chance encounters, accidents or blind luck.
I believe that each decision we make (from something as simple as what shoes to wear today to something as big as whether or not you ask someone to spend the rest of their life with you) shapes our lives and guides us on to the next decision that needs making. Our lives are made by our own design. Future decisions are made based on what we've learned from past decisions. When faced with the same decsion a second time, we may choose to go left instead of right, thereby changing the path, view, etc.
If the universe had something interesting to say, I'd listen. Like, "Hey, look here silly Earth peoples! This planet also contains intelligent, carbon based life forms, and they think your physics are wack!"

Do you believe in Destiny?
Yes, I do believe in destiny, and I tend to dissect the purpose within the question, which can sometimes answer; why everyone else does not. However, I believe we are in control of what decisions we make, and ultimately naturally speaking whatever happens depends on YOU. (I said naturally, because I do believe the spiritual is different from the natural. YET CO-existing)
Do you believe that things "happen for a reason" or is it all just a bunch of shit that happens by happenstance?
I believe both in a sense! I believe ultimately things do happen for a reason according to those who see that it does. I think we are only dictated by our minds in what we want to believe and know. Those things which happen, were meant to happen because it happened. I believe in accidents, and synchronicity. Somethings unrelated can come together for a specific purpose without having a real meaning to begin with. They happen because I believe nothing is truly new, but who/where/how/when/ it happens to the subject, is the truly thing that is really NEW.
Are you a believer in a "greater force" that guides us and dishes out the good and the bad, all towards a master plan or something like that?
I know there is a God and I believe he is in control, but he does what he pleases as he is sovereign. There is a plan, but I think it's meant to be broken. It's not a plan that challenges the reason to follow. People can do as they want, they will anyways regardless of what anyone says.
Or is it all about pure decisions and chance encounters coupled with accidents and blind luck?
I'll close it by saying what I have formulated according to all of these questions a long time ago in my blog.
The Obvious knowledge of Nothing or something, is the source that is often manipulated, for a similar manifestation which seems to include everyone. This is the institution that creates an agnostic choice which is responded by an atheist response.
