Tiger Woods won his first golf tournament since 2009 after making a clutch birdie shot on the 18th hole on the final day of the Chevron World Challenge. It's his first tournament win since that fateful Thanksgiving night in 2009 when he crashed his SUV into a tree after what appeared to be an altercation with his then-wife over extramarital affairs.

The win is pretty much on schedule. It takes a year, minimum, to make a major swing change. And the swing change wasn't all he was dealing with, obviously - with the breakup of his marriage and a major injury. He played great at the President's Cup. The tourney win was just waiting to happen.

I agree that it takes time. Even ONE of those things could throw off any normal golfer. But Tiger Woods isn't a normal golfer, he's Tiger Woods. I think what we found out is that he IS a normal human being, and maybe that affected him more than all the rest of this stuff (health issues, caddy issues, losing sponsors, etc).

Still, I expected him to eek out a win before now, even if he wasn't 100% "back". I'm genuinely surprised that it took this long. Not to get back to form - that I agree with you about. But he's Tiger Woods! Not getting ONE WIN since 2009? That surprised me.

He is starting to look better now, though. His swing, shot control, CLUB SELECTION and frustration level all seem to be moving along the same line instead of fighting one another. If he can get even close to the old Tiger Woods putting he'll be winning regularly, again.

Yeah, the first day of the President's Cup was a mess - neither he nor Stricker played well. For the rest of the tournament, however, he played much better than his record would indicate. Even Johnny Miller said he played well - and that asshat gives Tiger nothing.

Y'know...I still think his life started to spin out of control when his dad died. I mean...when you look at most of the cheating allegations, they happened after that. I think he just never dealt with it or allowed himself enough time or space to grieve properly.

Not only did we find out he was a human being, I think he did, too. And it all did a major number on his head.

It's really interesting, though...he seems so much more relaxed when he's playing now. He occasionally chats and laughs with the other members of his group. You almost never saw that before - he had a game face like nobody else.

Totally agree. But don't you think that's part of his game that's been missing? Part of what made him so great? It would be nice if he could win some tournaments (maybe even a couple more majors) with a smile. But if he had to go back to the old scowling, steely-eyed Tiger in order to make that happen I'd be fine with it.

He's won it five times. Thankfully there was some really good golfers there. It wasn't a PGA Tour event, but it wasn't some minor leaguers, either.
