I'm with you on this one, Bliss. And don't say to me "you'd rather look in mirror!" cause it's not true! Well sometimes it is, it depends on what's on, really.

It has to be said though that by and large, tv is not as bad in Australia as it is in America. We get a lot of their crap, too...but we have some great things on SBS, ABC and some on Foxtel.

I have to admit I enjoy crap every now and then, though. Tom Green, et al. But I most watch tv for news and documentaries or movies or GOOD dramas and comedies.

serious question IceNine... do you think that you'll spend a fair amount of time on this project, and it won't make any difference whatsoever? ... what do you hope to achieve by it? ...or is it just a release/statement?

I'm on my fifth year of being TV free...there's just so many other things to do...although I do miss The Simpsons...

It's funny, now, if I'm at a friend's house and they have the TV on I can't concentrate for even five minutes...I especially DESPISE sitcoms. Especially the ones on the major networks...you know the ones with the laugh track, the ones that set up the "joke" five minutes before it's delivered. The ones where falling or tripping over something constitues a "joke." All that shit has been done a million times...

I have friends that worked on "That 80's Show." Although I never saw it I heard it sucked and it eventually got cancelled. Well, these friends, "writers" have never read any type of literature not written in the last ten years. When I ask them abou the classics, they look at me like I'm completely out of touch--which I guess I am by TV standards anyway.

Anyway, my friends have been writing for sitcoms for over 20 years...it's time for new blood methinks.

TURN OF THE GODDAMN TV!

I will not make a difference in the world.
I will spend a fair amount of time on what I am doing.
The artistic component of my plan will be very cool.
The capitalistic component will be subversive and will make little money.

I am doing what I am doing as a statement and for the small amount of money that I will make from it.

What do you guys and girls think of all the blatant product placement in movies?

My beloved Apple Computer corporation is one of the worst in the world with the product placement... how many movies do you see where the good guys are NOT using Macs???

It all depends what one watchs...what one considers worth their time, imo. there definately R programs worth MY time, such as DISCOVERY, TLC, COURT TV, CNN, ANIMAL CHANNEL, AMC movies, HBO, BIOGRAPHY, HGTV, A&E, a few others & my 2 soaps i watch almost every day when i have time. i believe WE make celebrities of criminals, not TV. WE also watch the shows depicting ppl in a bad light. WE dont have 2 watch these presentations that the media throws out at us, as we dont know if they are 4 real. while ur at it, newspapers r full of garbage too, not depicting the truth more than half the time, as well as scagazines, (quoting princes name 4 them) and just listening 2 ppl gossip that one associates with. in the end it is up 2 US to make "intelligent decisions" regarding what we watch on tv, read, listen 2, etc. AND lastly, if we do digest something not worthwhile, we have brains (hopefully) 2 decide 4 ourselves (at least most of us do) what to believe & what not 2. as 4 our children, we must direct they're choice of what they view as much as possible but then there is the computer/internet with much more dangerous stuff to worry about than television, concerning mainly our children, imo. we can only do "so much" these days 2 protect ANYONE from the "evils" of society. If u want 2 find the "evil", anyone can & will. its hard 2 put blinders on or control society from infiltrating ones brain with evil if one so chooses 2 let it. WE must do the decision making best we can 4 oneself & our loved ones.
May the BELLS ring 4 U even when ur not in love. hug kisses

Funny enough, I've just got back from the store with a brand
spankin' new television.

Yesterday evening, my old television just melted from the
inside or something. It smelled like hell and there was
a lot of dark smoke.

I don't know but I saw this docu on pcb's and something
like "fire prohibitors" or something like it which are
used in televisions and monitors to keep them from going
up in flames when they short cirquit.

Anyway. Even without blowing up or melting, your monitor
or tv expells small particles of these materials and they
can cause very serious health threads over a long period
of time.

In northern Europe these fire-prohibitor materials are no
longer legal to put into monitors and tv's. So that should
be a hinter at the fact of how serious the danger really is.

But fcuz, I'm still happy with my new tv and I'll spent all
of tonight watching mind-numbing shows, brainwashing ads
and a side serving of propaganda thru the news.

Just as long as I can still read a book sundaymorning.
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I will NOT watch commercial television... we have already seen. I watch MOVIES without commercials... there is a difference.

I avoid the vast majority of Hollywood movies like the plague as well. Commercial television and Hollywood movies pander to the lowest common-denominator.

As Hitler said:

"All propaganda must be so popular and on such an intellectual level, that even the most stupid of those towards whom it is directed will understand it. Therefore, the intellectual level of the propaganda must be lower the larger the number of people who are to be influenced by it."

One can witness this exact application of propaganda in commercial television on a daily basis.

Let us not forget another quote by Hitler:

"The broad masses of a population are more amenable to the appeal of rhetoric than to any other force."

The only programs I watch on TV is the bias evening news, pay per view events (like boxing) and the sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond. Everything else pretty much sucks.
