Are Muscular Men More Attractive?

UCLA professor David Frederick and colleagues have asked: Why is Muscularity Sexy? Conclusion:

[...] these studies suggest that men's physical features are related not only to women's expressed preferences for mates but also to men's and women's past mate choices and sex behaviors.

This fascinating paper actually includes 6 studies and is difficult to summarize. Here I will focus on just one of the studies:

  1. 141 college women aged around 20 looked at 6 computer generated images of men (created with MyVirtualModel.com).
  2. Note that only the images were shown to the women - not the labels (e.g. brawny, slender, etc).
  3. The women rated the images against four factors: sexual desirability, commitment, physical dominance (over other males), and volatility (e.g. bad temper).

Okay, deep-breath guys...

  • Attractiveness, sexual desirability? The built and toned guys came tops. The chubby guy was bottom of the heap. Brawny guy still desirable but not as much as built and toned guy.
  • Physical Dominance? Brawny and built were tops, the slender guy bottom.
  • Commitment? Chubby guy voted the best, brawny and built the worst.
  • Volatility? Slender guy the least volatile, with brawny and built the most volatile.

I'm pretty close to "Brawny" in the pics above. I'd like to be bigger than "Brawny". Right now, I'm 6 feet and 200 pounds. I've always figured 210 or 215 would be an awesome weight for me, if I could keep my 34-inch waist..

I've thought about doing steroids for awhile, to see what happens muscle-wise, but since it's against the law, I won't do it.

I'm not naturally big, so all my size is due to hard work and good diet. I'm pretty sure though, that I've hit the wall in how big I can get.

When I went from diabetes pills to insulin injections, my sugar got messed up and I gained 10 pounds. It was mostly in the gut, which was a bummer since I was a flatbelly. But I've worked out hard since then and I'm still at 200 pounds but the extra 10 pounds has moved from my belly to my chest and arms. My waist had gone from 34 to 36 but now it's almost back to 34. I've put an inch or so on my arms and I've pressed more weight than ever before.

So what I'm saying is, insulin is the new steroids!

Built and brawny are not attactive to me at all. I'm cool with the rest of them, but toned is most attractive to me.

hmmm

...and yet when it comes to "Physical Dominance" (which is what turns you on, right?), "built" and "brawny" were rated tops by the women in the study.

Is it possible that you don't want to COMPLETELY surrender control? hmm

Actually they've been using insulin in bodybuilding since the mid 90's. Insulin is the most powerful hormone for building muscle mass.

I didn't know that! But I can tell you for sure that I've gotten noticeably bigger and MUCH stronger since I started taking insulin injections. And I wasn't skinny or weak to begin with.

this is a serious thread, lol

what do U think about steroids used for cosmetic purposes?

do U know anybody who has used them? WHAT HAPPENED?

in my gym there are like 5 or 6 guys who PROUDLY say that they regularly use them, without collateral effects. They are as big as trucks, lol.

I (we all) have heard stories of guys developing tits, getting bald, losing their testicles, dying from cancer or "just" developing a heavy/painful addiction, etc. due to the steroids. But those guys at my gym seem so healthy and happy, lol I don't know what to think right now...and they are already 38-55 years old...

so ,ladies and gents, thoughts? ... yes? no? maybe? for a while? Y-A-Y? N-A-Y? hell yeah? not a chance in hell?

THAT PIC IS AWESOME! I WANT TO MOUNT THAT DUDE! He probably got a dick the size of a lipstick tube though. confused

I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

Steroids make your balls temporarily shrink, not your dick. Looking at this dude's body he may or may not have been juicing. Hard to tell, he doesn't have the size that makes me say he's definitely on.

^ Yes I say dude is naturally muscular, just lots of protein with low carbs and a heavy weight lifting routine. I believe much of that is genetics also. Now JHud's baby daddy is definitely juicing. That dude looks weird as hell now.

nod Oh HELL yeah!

I saw him on WWE's NXT show and he had decent skills (but probably only made the cut b/c he's JHud's baby daddy lol ).

My buddy told me that anyone with arms bigger than 19" is on steroids (unless a genetic freak).

I don't know a lot of guys, steroids or not, who have legit 19" arms. But 16" arms on a 5'6" guy will look a lot more impressive than 19" arms on someone who is 6'5".

Back in the day people doing steroids were pretty much all serious lifters. Nowadays people are lazy and just looking for a short cut and most dealers won't tell them the truth because they just want to make a quick buck.
