2012 end of world prophecies totally debunked....

As I always suspected, the Mayans never actually said 2012 would be the end of the world, it's just their calendars ran out then (and they had to stop somewhere). I always suspected as much and now research has proved it:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news...a-16000331

The calendar used by the ancient Mayan civilisation does not predict the end of the world in December 2012 as some believe, according to experts.

A new reading of a Mayan tablet mentioning the 2012 date suggests that it refers to the end of an era in the calendar, and not an apocalypse.

The date was "a reflection of the day of creation", Mayan codes researcher Sven Gronemeyer told AP.

The day also marked the return of a Mayan god, Mr Gronemeyer added.

Bolon Yokte, the god of creation and war, was expected to return, according to Mr Gronemeyer's reading of a Mayan text carved into stone 1,300 years ago.

The date marks the end of one of the periods of roughly 400 years into which the Mayan calendar is divided.

Mexico's National Institute for Anthropological History has also tried to counter speculation that the Mayans predicted a catastrophic event for 2012.

Only two out of 15,000 registered Mayan texts mention the date 2012, according to the Institute, and no Mayan text predicts the end of the world.

"There is no prophecy for 2012. It is a marketing fallacy," Erik Velasquez, etchings specialist at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, told Reuters.

Right... ***Rolls up sleeves***

The only thing we know 4 100% certain about this planet... Why it's here?... Who put it here?... Why we are on it?... And how long it's gonna last?... Is this... NOBODY KNOWS. Nobody knows and anyone who claims 2 have it all figured out (Be that the Mayans or Ur local priest) is talking nonsense. Imagine finding a bug on a football. Now, how long do U think it would take 4 U 2 explain 2 the bug, what that ball is and the rules of the game it's used 4?... A while huh?... Well, that's us... We're just bugs on a ball.

It's pretty obvious when U look at the make up of our solar system and then look at the make up of an atom that there is a bigger picture here but we don't know what that is and we probably never will. Cos like I say even if it was explained 2 us, who's 2 say we could even comprehend it. We are so small in this universe it is beyond arrogance 2 assume it's all about us, we are just a side effect of all of that and we should be very happy about that but man just thinks he's so intelligent he just knows everything. Well remember this... We may be the most intelligent being on this one small planet, that by no means makes us the most intelligent in all of that. So choose Ur prophets and predictions where U find them but be sure of one thing... All they have and all they ever will have is guesswork, man made religions and man made superstitions cos nobody and I mean NOBODY knows. Thank U.

Use of the Mayan calendar ended a long time before 2012.

you're right that the mayan calendar is not one denoting an 'apocalyptic' timetable.

however, don't overlook the fact that 12/21/12 is the day on which Bolon Yokte, Mayan god of creation and war returns to earth. THAT is significant. it's the time of the return of the Sky People* eek

*history channels 'ancient aliens' program explains more about the 'sky people', pictures, carvings and paintings of which are found all around this planet....

People who know about the Mayan calender (like a museum curator I know) have been saying this for many many years and wondering why people made up the end of the world stuff.
