Trailer Leak Was 'Heartbreaking'

20th Century Fox co-chairman and chief executive officer Tom Rothman has described a bootleg leak of the Prometheus trailer as "heartbreaking".

A pirated version of the trailer for Ridley Scott's science fiction epic leaked online recently, with Fox moving swiftly to take down the illegal videos from YouTube.

Rothman told MTV: "It's heartbreakingly unfair, because the quality of the visuals is spectacularly beautiful, shot in 3D compositionally the way only a master could do it.

"For some early, half-baked, half-assed test to leak, it's so unfair. I will promise you this: When that material is ready and it comes out, you should go see it in 3D on a screen. It will deliver.

Rothman played down speculation that Prometheus will serve as a direct prequel to Alien, but acknowledged that there are links between the two movies.

"I suppose [it's a prequel] if you want to definitionally be that literal, but it does it a great disservice," he said. "If you looked at the whole movie, 95% of it is entirely unto itself. Ridley said it right: If you're a fan and you look closely, you'll spot strands of DNA.

"I'll tell you the great thing: It's way bigger than that. The ideas are way bigger, way more original and - it's a scary word - way more profound."

Prometheus will open June 8, 2012.

Funny to see the org's growing Fassbender contingent. I have to agree the boy is hot.

I saw him in person at a screening back in September. He walked up in the place and had women literally fainting and being carried off to hospital. I didn't know that still happened in 2011. That's swagger.

I knew when I saw him in 300 and then again in Inglorious Basterds that we were meant to be together in a sinful way.

He's like a fair skinned/fair haired Joseph Fiennes which basically puts him in the Prince family of hotness. In other words, this dude can get the cookies and the cream and fuck the wrapper! Ba dump bump! His earning potential and slender yet muscular build pleases me greatly.

I can't wait for this! Love Alien, big Ridley Scott fan. It's gonna be awesome!

These pics all do look a bit clean cut. Hopefully the movie has more of a murky gritty feel.

I checked yesterday and there was ONE theater in NYC (nothing on Long Island) playing it.

RS better be killing Theron off real soon in that movie.

Not at all shocked about Utah, but I AM shocked about NYC. The movie very likely will pick up Oscar buzz, though, so you can expect Fox Searchlight to push it to more screens between now and awards season.

I'm really pleased with the casting choices but so far the sets look a bit Stargate SG-1.

yeah the look seems to be of lesser scifi. But I think these are just publicity shots. Not actual frames of the movie.

Prometheus will open on June 1, 2012 in the UK and on June 8, 2012 in the US.

I just saw that. I don't care if the storyline sucks...I can still just look at all the hotness.
