Happy Thanksgiving/What are your plans?

HAPPY Thanksgiving Everyone! I hope everybody has a great Thanksgiving Day with loved ones and friends. What are your plans?

I have to work tomorrow. I am off Thursday and Friday. I am just staying home, relaxing, and watching my shows on tv. I also have to finish writing Christmas cards and mailing them all out by the end of the month.

Sounds fun! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family HotGritz. Maybe you should make the cornbread. You are a Cancer, so you should be a good cook. Are you?

Its just me and my kids...

my kids have allergies and everyone owns a dog/cats.

So we will be staying put, I'll do my usual. I am keeping it really simple this year though. I always cooked too much food in the past.

I will be making a few changes this year ....

my cranberry sauce will be made with honey and NOT sugar. I am trying to cut back on the sugar.

ALL fresh herbs will be used and I even made my own herbed butter that is ready to go biggrin

I will only make the basics,so this year its just

Turkey, mac n cheese, stuffing, collard greens, candied yams, cranberry sauce

blueberry and sweet potato pies to be baked and bananas foster for desserts

that's it.

I cut out all my Puerto Rican-ishness this Thanksgiving, I'll save that for Christmas. lol

keeping it simple, cooking hopfully not too much but I say that every year, making family rounds, eating too much I don't even bother trying not to, kicking it with the offspring, lots of talking, enjoy a movie or two, then sleep I'm full don't bother me.

I attempted to start my cooking tonight so I won't be so bogged down on Thanksgiving morning because I wanted to go to the gym a couple of hours before the big meal. Anyway, my plans to start cooking early were ruined by the "New & Improved" Pam cooking spray. I made two cakes this evening and both stuck to the pans!!!mad So, now, I'll have to go back to the store tomorrow morning, buy a different brand of cooking spray and start all over again!mad

^ awwww. comfort I feel your pain. They do make a baker's spray that has flour in it and it seems to work pretty good lurking even when using for cooking other than baking.

We just buried my Granny (Mom's Mom) today, so we decided to do a small dinner with just my parents, my sister and me.

I have to work. U.S. Thanksgiving is not a holiday up in Canada. My in-laws back in Ohio remain a bit pissed about that confused , so we're gonna be driving down there early Saturday to hang out with them.

The cheese and jalapeno is Mexican cornbread and it's delicious but hell no, it ain't supposed to be sweet. I don't do no sweet cake tasting cornbread (Jiffy Mix) barf But as for cornbread supposed to be dry, oh hell naw it ain't supposed to be dry. I'm still experimenting trying to get my cornbread from coming out dry (and it always comes out dry) but when I've had cornbread from folks that make good cornbread, it ain't dry. lol

My brother, his wife, and his two grown stepsons are coming over. My sister inlaw will be cooking over at my place since their oven is broken. I plan to be drinking while she's cooking.

I'm allergic to flour. The chocolate cake that I will be making for myself will be gluten-free, which means I can't use the special baking spray on the pans that I'm preparing my gluten-free cake in. Regular Pam was working fine for me for years until some brainiac with nothing else better to do got the idea to "improve" it. If it ain't broke, dont bloody fix it!!!!

I'll be cooking for my wife and four kids. Truth be told, that's enough family for me, no need for all the others. disbelief

We're going to play the original Star Wars trilogy blu-rays while I make a traditional dinner:

roasted turkey

gravy

cranberry sauce

sweet cornbread stuffing

green bean casserole

pumpkin mousse

and the greatest apple pie on the face of the planet. nod

Everything from scratch. None of that pre-made, pre-cooked bullshit. barf we throw down in the DiViccaro house.

Starting the brine and the pie crusts today, then cooking all day tomorrow. We've had a lot to be UNthankful for this year, but I'm going to eat like a pig anyway. pig

Your wife has done got herself a good man if you can cook like that. As for no need for all the other family members, I'm the same way. Even though most of my family lives right here in the Jackson metro area, the only ones I've ever had Thanksgiving with are the ones I'm in contact with all the time. I've been to other family members' houses for Thanksgiving before and felt like a fish out of water. There's a reason I don't keep in contact with them all year long and they live right here in the same area. Because we're completely different types of people and they bore me. lol
