Empire of the sun
Anyone else seen this? I swear to God I knew nothing about this film but did think it had a epic David Lean look to it, and I go on IMDB, and David was at one time keen on directing it LOL.
Anyway I sort of agree with people who say that all the major characters are basically, not very nice, but it's a gorgeous movie to look at and the acting is great. Particually Bale and John Malkovich (of course you would expect that from John LOL).
Visually you could argue its Spielbergs best looking film. And as you'd expect, he gets a great performance out of a young Christian Bale.
I do love some of these epic films, and I do not mind Stevens sentimentality, which is reigned in in this film, but still more prominent then most movies that feature a war LOL.

I saw this years ago, what a great film! it really takes you on a ride. And the ending was great & a young Bale was top notch. It seems this music wasn't very big when it came out? despite Speilburg directing it Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener
