We have a RIGHT to have as many children as we want.
We have an OBLIGATION and RESPONSIBILITY to only have as many as we can support & raise.
Whether it's one child or an army of 20...if you can't bear the burden then you shouldn't be havin' them...but if you've got it covered, then no one has the right to tell you how many you can or cannot have.
...and for the record, I think that these people are out of their damned minds...
95% Agree!
I don't think they're out of their minds though. I used to until I watched some documentary on them that started from the time they courted and married up until child #17. It appears this is a loving and financially stable family where everybody works together for the good of the brood. I can't be mad at them for that especially when there are ne'erdowells out there who can't even hack one child. God bless their fertile asses! Nice to see Mrs. Duggard dispelling that myth about women being dried up at age 40. I don't know why doctors insist on scaring older women out of child bearing but then are all to happy to charge them 15-30K per infertility treatment. Its a damn racket IMO. One of my exes got burffed by his momma when she was 47! If you bleed, you can breed.
so they get a pass by society because they belong to some big christian church and they can have 20 kids....but someone having 20 spouses...... like some of the mormons... is illegal....doesn't make sense. |

Uhm...no...they get a pass b/c they're raising all these kids in a stable home, with love, with education, without public assistance, without CPS intervention...regardless of their beliefs.
Having multiple kids as opposed to multiple spouses is apples and oranges. Like smoking Marlboros as opposed to smoking crack. One is "ok" (depending on who you speak to) while the other is illegal.
Why are you offended by the Duggards BTW? I'm not baiting, I'm genuinely curious. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory! |

I just think it's irresponsible to have that many children. the whole family looks like deer caught in head lights they always have their cheesy smiles with blanks stares. How can you pay attention to 20 individual kids? Kids need to be loved and nutured. Something just doesn't feel right???? i just can't put my finger on it. For one, if they one to have 20 kids....have 20 kids. But it almost seems like a carnival show. After each baby.... they have to hit the talk show circuit and they are on every channel and nobody seems to ever ask any tough questions about it. It seems like the kids are kind of exploited? It's just a matter of time before one of these kids writes a tell all book after they grow up and escape that house.
The main issue is there is no way they can afford these kids. They have to be getting support from the church. Which is ok....but they are probably taking away from other church members who really need financial assistance. Not to mention people like that always get free stuff. When there are plenty of people who are down and out in america and don't get shit. Could you imagine how much their health insurance premiums are? Weekly grocery bill? etc? |

I will help you out with that.
You really just dislike them because they are a heterosexual, happily married, christian couple who are financially able to care for 20 kids. They have taken that traditional family thing to a new level and that's what you're really upset about. Your initial post gave you away.
Their oldest child, a son, is happily married with 2 kids of his own. If there was a negative tell all book then he would have been the one to write it. On their reality show you never see the Duggards fighting with each other like that othre famous couple with a large brood. The kids seem happy with their family and with themselves.
The father Duggard is a successful business man and this family has NEVER gotten public assistance. There is something to be said for hard work you know. I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

well thats fine having number 20....................
but for some reason I think its irresponsible - I don't know why I feel that I just think its pretty idiotic really. I am sure that are happy with the dynamics of the family but the parents' time must be spread pretty thin. I would also ask the underlying question - why? For what purpose do you feel the need to have such a large family? How are you going to feel when you have to stop? Its the children that worry me cos I am sure that there is some resentment building up there - but there I go - its not my business and its a free country. Its social conditioning just like with everything else. We have grown accustomed to the 2.5 children per household even though in most cultures throughout the world it's normal to have a large family. We are also unaccustomed to seeing a happily married couple in an age where the divorce rate is 50%. In an economy that is suffering, again we are unaccustomed to seeing such a large family that is financially stable and does not rely on public assistance.
You bring up a good point about the parent's time being spread thin but again, its their choice to have their time spread thing and among the children but I would guess that its not a problem. Who made up the rule that you can only love one child at a time. What's wrong with the parents having all kids together hugging and kissing them and reading to them. Were you aware that the Duggards home school their children? The kids all share in chores and none of them are whining about toys, tv and who got the last potato chip. Its amazing really.
The only downside I can see is that the older siblings might not want to baby sit on mom and dad's date night and that their house might smell like baby diaper from time to time. I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

Only thing I got to say to that is, I've watched a few episodes of Sister Wives and it depressed the living hell out of me none of those women look happy just scared of ending up alone so they just live with it, the Duggards kind of make me feel inspired when I watch, not inspired to have a bunch of kids but if they can be willful enough to do that then hell what can I do. |

7 of the 19 are grown or damn near 18 so that leaves only 12- out of those 12 -5 of them are teenagers- so that really just leaves 7 litttle kids and one on the way.
- Put things in perspective people. - But she is 45 years old- Now my mother had me at 42 but- I don't understand for the life of me how a woman in her 40's has 4 kids without any fertiity help- i know tons of woman going thru iui-ivf and such just for one and they are not out of their 30s. So maybe this is God's will or we are being bamboozled.... LOVE HARD. |

I read somewhere that if you start having kids in ur teens or 20s and you continue baby making then having them in your 40s is pretty much easy. Its the wait time (not having kids until your 40s) that makes it difficult. Remember Mrs Duggar been knocking them out pretty much every 15 months!
My other theory is that she's just fertile and her eggs like his sperm. Check it out, not only do they got a gang of kids but none of those kids have any kind of birth defect or undesireable traits. Hell they're all healthy, good looking and apparently smart. The oldest one is already on his way to breeding his own soccer team.

I think you hit the nail on the head there. These people really don't seem much different from animal hoarders to me but that's JMHO. They seem to be addicted to children...not the worst thing to be addicted to but a very expensive one nonetheless. But, if they can feed and take proper care of the numerous living beings that they chose to have, then more power to them. Do I agree with what they are doing...HELL NO! My reason for not being okay with it is because there are soo many children in foster care just waiting for a great family to love them and these people insist on just mass producing infants. What's wrong with adopting children and giving them the same love you'd give your own seed? I just don't understand their ultimate goal because it just seems pointless to me. If they geniunely loved kids that much than I'd expect to see some adopted children amongst their biological brood. I think God would agree with me on that considering that all children are blessings not just our own. Maybe if they were truly selfless and actually adopted some children, then maybe I'd be all GO DUGGARS!!!! They seem to be financially able to feed a small village so what's the problem? But seriously, I'm not gonna praise people for breeding like puppy mill dogs sorry. To me, they put themselves in the sideshow oddities spectrum by doing these reality shows and I think that's sad for those children in the long run. Hopefully, after having the last baby born with birth defects and the current miscarriage, they will give it a rest already. ADOPT ALREADY DAMN! Prince Rogers Nelson
