Any hair stylists on the org?

Or anyone else that knows a lot about hair?

I have dyed blonde hair but I want to go really dark brown...just for the winter. Is this possible to do this with semi permanent colour?

Im not a stylist but i did have blondish hair this summer, I used a semi to cover it after I got bored with it, just dont get too dark a color because your hair will asborb it like a sponge because of the damage from being blond... It was so dark it was almost black and I used a medium brown color... It was so bad in fact I had my daughter (a beautician btw) give me a soap cap to get some of the color out because the color wasnt fading out like it should have! Now im back to permanent color... I like it way better than semi..

Oh, so...because I used to have dark hair, then bleached the shit out of it to get it back to blonde it probably will make it worse?

I want my old colour back...but I know that my white roots will make me want to eventually go back to blonde because it's easier to maintain...so I thought a semi might be ok.

I'm so sick of the blonde. I want my darkest brown hair again! I find I look so much better dark.

Semi permanent would work for you. just make sure the color base in the dark brown isn't green or purple. A red color based dark brown would work the best for you.....

Depends on hair porosity...it will bleed. How fast it will bleed depends on the shampoos and conditioners your use.

Curly/wavy hair right?

You use bleach?

Or are you gray?

This all matters because gray hair is just RESISTANT as hell to color... so you may want to use a higher volume of peroxide to the semi.

Um, as high as you can go without the straw effect.

and if you color alot with bleach this means the hair is porous, so do a protein treatment before hand.. (a week before) it'll strenghten your hair and your hair will grab more color.

USE a Nuetral brown... those tend to have darker base colors and it will blend nicely with any golden hues you already have going on with the color you already have.

duh.. spell edits.

Well, ya...now you did. lol

Will my hair eventually go back to the lightest blonde it is now? Or will it always be stained a bit?

I would probably go with a color lighter than you want and go from there... Coloring it dark isnt near as damaging as bleaching it blond..

Are you going to do this yourself? If you are going to a stylist maybe talk about a partial, or lowlights... My daughter has the exact same prob with her roots because she is a blond as well.. it makes her look like she has grey hair when you first start seeing the roots! lol

Either way, my suggestion would be to go with a lighter color, and then in a couple of weeks go darker... Blond hair is pourus (sp) so once its colored in, or filled in, you can then layer on a darker color...

Again, Im not an expert, just going by what my daughter has taught me and my experience... biggrin

Why don't you just go to a stylist and have them do it?

Curly/wavy hair right? Yes

You use bleach? Only to get that old dark colour out..now I just use blonde dye on the roots

If you want to make sure it's done right, I would suggest you take your sweet ass to hair salon. Just so you don't mess your hair up. Your hair could be brittle for all I know....

I don't want anything permanent though.

You should go to a stylist because many semi-permanent colors tend to "stain" if application is done incorrectly.

If applied all at once you will get different hues of brown depending on the bleach overlapping and opening up the cuticles of the hair shaft unevenly...so the tips may be more porous than the roots.

the demarcation will show. A professional can guarantee results if they mess up.

YES! pissed

This is why I recommneded a NEUTRAL brown. Its a more balanced base.

A red/violet base can pop burgundy or copper ...

A gold base can pop brass

Curly hair is funny too because sometimes the tips grab too much color. That's a bitch too, especially with hot roots. dead
