Numb feeling in legs (personal question)

I wonder if I'm the only one who when reacting to something I read that my legs/thighs suddenly get numb for a minute? I know mine's do on some occasion and I never understood that. Does it have anything related to bad nerves or something? I'm only asking because I know it's hereditary in both sides of my family to have bad nerves, especially my mother. I wonder if numbness has anything to do with the cause of bad nerves.

Apology if this topic doesn't make sense but something I've been wondering outloud for some time.

lol I ask because whenever I read something crazy that has me shaking my head, my legs suddenly feel weird. I don't know how that started lol like all over your body, you start to react in a shock. Maybe I'm the only one... shrug

Like I said, I don't think it's major like that. It's not THAT type of numbness. It's blood flow. I'm guessing, and don't wanna go TMI, because I, er, relieve myself... lurking

I didnt hear of it happening randomly cause of family and meaning nothing, but just get it checked to rule out what it could be. This has actually been happening to me too, on my arm since late summer and I went for a test, but nothing was found though I still feel something once in awhile though its different too. I get anxiety easily, so maybe its linked to that, possibly for you as well

If it worsens - which I doubt - then I'll check it but I don't think it's a problem...for now. But thanks guys.

Have you had your blood sugar checked to see if you have diabetes?

I have it, and my feet used to go numb all the time. But there's medicine you can take to fix that.

Nah, I don't think it's that though. I rarely eat candy. I'm thinking it may be what smoothcriminal12 says about staying in my chair for hours, it can make them numb just from laziness.

i agree with Greg. I wasn't a candy eater and I got diabetes anyway.

And I have had that numb feeling in my legs. Get your blood sugar checked.

Timmy let me preface what i'm about to do by saying that i'm not trying to make light of your concern.
Hopefully, you'll get checked out and find out it's nothing serious and easily dealt with.

I didn't know it could be a diabetes symptom though it runs in my family. I should get tested for it.

yeahthat

the word sciatica comes to mind. but hey, i dunno. the numbness might be one of the symptoms of sitting for extended hours in front of the 'puter. giggle (we have a 2-3hr rule @ my house-with 1hr breaks)

however (and seriously) i am aware that one of the symtoms of sciatica is - when one feels a numbness in either leg or feet.

here's a link: http://www.lower-back-pai...atica.html

also a pix of the sciatic nerve at link below:

nod once again yeahthat to TD3.

Don't play dude. I just recently got news today about a young lady 24 yrs old who had

been having headaches recently has a brain tumor. A lot of times you go to your

physician and it may be something minor but you never know. Numbness or pain in

your arms or legs could indicate a problem with blood sugar.

It could be something or it might be just in your mind. You need to go to your doctor to be sure though.

In the early 2000s, I thought I had slightly lost feeling in my right arm. I got out my uncle's medical book and saw that was a symptom of someone having a stroke. It was 3:00 a.m. and I rush to the emergency room and they couldn't find anything wrong with me. That damn visit cost my ass $75 for nothing. I went to my regular doctor the next day and had her to thoroughly check me out and she found nothing wrong with me either. However, she knew me inside and out and knows how much I worry about things. She asked me why I thought I was having a stroke and I told her that I had been browsing through my uncle's medical book. She told me to stay my ass out of medical books and the internet because lots of things have the same symptoms and being the worry wart that I am, I basically scared the hell out of myself and made myself think I was having a stroke. In other words, it was "all in my head" and she prescribed me some Xanax, which I only took two or three pills and eventually ended up throwing the rest of the bottle away because I've heard you can get addicted to them. See what a worry wart I am. lol

It could be something and then again, it might be nothing. But you need to go to your regular doctor that not only knows you physically, but also mentally. And if you don't have a regular doctor, you need to get one.

My doctor also thinks my numbness is from anxiety and I was given ativan to keep in case of emergencies, but I don't take it or need it. It was cause sometimes it was coupled with shoulder or chest pain and I also thought something was wrong with my heart or I wouldn't wake up the next day.

[Edited 11/15/11 19:05pm]

Sometimes, eating candy has nothing to do with it. Nor sometimes does weight.

I was 6' and 185 pounds and in almost perfect shape when I got diabetes and the funny thing was, we knew it was coming. It was genetic. My doctor said I could eat all the sweets I wanted, or completely cut them out, and it wouldn't make a difference.

And he was right.

So don't think that just because you are not fat, or you don't eat sweets, that you're immune from diabetes. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, that finds out I have diabetes can't believe it.

it could mean alot of things. how is your balance?....do you drop things often?

numbness in the legs could mean alot of things including but not being limited to:

multiple sclerosis

herniated disc

ruptured disc

circulatory problems...

talk to your doctor.
