Actually...12/21/12 is the end of the current era. The end of their self-rule was fairly decently forecast for the time when the Spaniards invaded the Yucatan. The white, bearded god Quetzalcoatl was due to return to "reclaim his throne" around the time that Hernan Cortez landed. In fact, the very reason for Cortez's success was that Moctezuma (and the Aztecs in general) was so unsure as to whether or not he was their returning god that he welcomed him with open arms into Tenochtitlan instead of just killing the whole stinking lot of them.

I don't recall exactly. There was a book I read years ago called The Mayan Prophesies that went into it in detail.

12/21/12 is about the end of the current age, and a change for mankind...what exactly that could be is open to interpretation. There are those who see a striking commonality with other "end of the world" prophesies such as the Malachy Prophesies, or the possibility the that (now due) reversal of the earth's polarity will cause cataclysmic earthquakes and volcanic eruptions of epic proportions. Or, those who believe that b/c that date marks when the sun and planets will align with the center of our galaxy, it may allow for a wormhole or other portal to open for intergalctic travelers (who may've been here before) to come back.

It's interesting when people start bringing up this theory about how the Mayans predicted 2012...AND a certain date yet left little to the imagination about what might happen on that date, this being December 21, four days before Christmas. If that "day" comes and goes, what would people say THEN?

I've had a dream about it. The earth dissapeared into the colliding universe. I was watching it, from the ground, lying on the floor, next to my mother and stephdad.

Then I was told, by whoknowswho-orwhat that it was ending, however, I didn't need to be afraid. I would be okay, just like my mum. We would be fine and save. And that my stephdad would get what was becoming to him. He would not be okay. However, I didn't need to worry about anybody else anymore. I just needed to know that everything would be peaceful for me (and my mom)

I just read about this shit on Wikipedia and the Mayans didn't even say the world will end. It's the end of someone's rule. Who knows what will happen after that? Maybe it'll be a positive change or nothing at all. But I'm starting to believe that people came up with their own theories about 2012 meaning "the end". That's why there's so many stories about "the end" of something. Like today's posting about "the end of the CD".
