well, apparently you use the earth's magnetic field.

So all you have to do is keep the earth underneath the space ship while you fly to other planets. no prob

but they're incredibly far apart. In this demo it appears that they need to be close to the magnets.

I guess, since a spaceship runs largely on interia once it gets going, you could slingshot yourself past these things (like we already do with their gravity) getting a magnetic boost.

It just doesn't seem like a way to propel yourself in the middle of space is all
