I'm surprised that more bars and clubs don't try going smoke-free as a business decision. I think there's a market that's largely gone untapped: non-smokers who enjoy "adult beverages." Yes, smoking and drinking supposedly go hand-in-hand, but I know of two smoke-free brewpubs that seem to have done well, and non-smokers easily comprise a majority of the population.

On this subject, I read an interesting response to the notion that the government should not dictate the smoking policies of privately-owned businesses. It sounds like something a lawyer would think of, but I'm pretty sure the author (a gentleman named Greg Travis) is not a lawyer:

So long as an establishment operates under the umbrella of the state as a corporation or a partnership enjoying limited liability and a whole host of other rights it should expect to also be limited and regulated by the state.

Want to have a restaurant in which people can smoke? Then don't incorporate. Otherwise shut up and thank your lucky stars for all your deductions.

It doesn't work here in the UK.We like our pubs to smell like pubs.Smoke, beer, cheap Aftershave and Perfume.

Live music from some awesome musicians...Michael Bland, Jim Brown, Chazz, and Jellybean Johnson were a couple of the special guests last night. Margaret Cox, Billy Franzi...I can't remember the other names. But they ALL are outstanding.

I'd recommend that show to everyone who is in the city on a Monday night!
