The 131st Audio Engineering Society Convention – NYC This weekend I attended the 131st Audio Engineering Society Convention here at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City. For over 60 years, the AES has been the largest gathering of audio professionals and enthusiasts on the globe, attracting delegates from over 100 countries worldwide. The Javits Center exhibit floor offered the chance to see a range of new and familiar audio products from manufacturers that wanted to see you and spend time evaluating the tools that you may prefer to use in your audio work. Workshops, tutorials, technical papers, and the exhibition floor provided a wealth of learning, networking, and business opportunities. But the convention was more than just equipment, exhibits, papers, and workshops, it was all about connections and communication, and it allowed for that increasingly rare opportunity of face-to-face contact with friends and peers in an instantaneous and near-virtual world. There was truly something there for everyone's audio interests. There were in-depth featured tracks led by renowned experts in the areas of Product Design, Game Audio, Live Sound, Broadcast & Media Streaming, and Historical, along with workshops and tutorials on everything from Audio Restoration to High-Resolution Audio. It was crazy! I was so grateful to be able to attend, and it was all thanks to the thoughtfulness and good-grace of the Org's very own theAudience, who provided me with free registration for the event. Who does that?!? I'm sincerely humbled by the experience that theAudience made possible for me this weekend. I was like a kid in a candy store!

...because they're doing damn-nearly everything now besides washing the dishes, lol. You could run an entire television network from your home with these things now. | |
