I agree... one of my good friends spent months in China... and luved it.. and he isn't Chinesebut the ppl he did meet there where really nice 2him, some of whom he trusted w/his safety

I've been here for 4 years and I can say, with conviction, that this is NOT uncommon for the Chinese ppl.

they would rather not get involved in these things, because its also common for the victim to BLAME the person who helped them, in order to get some money out of them.

i'm not suprised at all. the culture is sick.. i had a chinese student, lived with us 6 months. she was facinated by western interaction. she said in china parents are unemotional, no hugging, kissing, no saying i love u.. this lot grow up detatched from humanity imo

& when i was in india, beggers, people dying in the gutter.. animals suffering & people just walk past. it was ghastly.

China may be a superpower in the political and financial arena, but they are 20 years behind the west when it comes to human decency and common sense.

I gotta admit the only reason I clicked on General Discussion forum is to see people's reaction on this article. I didn't want to find any comments like this one. The culture is sick? Maybe to you, but I hope you know that just because Chinese parents happen to have different style of discipline and different ways of showing their love to their children, it doesn't make US culture any superior to Chinese culture.

its easy to say "dont generalise" but what strikes me as odd is that 18 ppl walked passed the dying girl.

if one, or two ppl had walked passed and then the 3rd came along to try to save her, then yes, ppl who bash the Chinese can be told to not generalise....but 18 Chinese ppl walked passed her!

There one incident inside the Beijing airport where one guy punched his own mother out, cold. (something about the mother not giving him enough cash to spend)

Now, everyone walked passed this lady who was spread out on the floor.....then, finally, ONE GUY comes along to resusitate her. Do you know who this guy was? A western guy (American I think).

it was in the papers and the comments from Chinese were that they were suprised that a Westerner helped the lady.

In my book, you dont think about helping someone, its automatic.

It ended up on the News in China. I don't think this happens as commonly as a lot of people think.

From what I saw, I'm carefully assuming that most of people who walked passed by, could've thought she was dead. She didn't really move. Little girl shook a little and that's when the lady in pink moved her to the corner. It's still no excuse, they should've called paramedics or done something...but my friend who's from China once told me it's not uncommon to see dead people on the street in some parts of China
