What's the most self-destructive thing you tend to do?

It's late - 2:00am my time - and I should be in bed.

Lately I've only been getting about 3 hours of sleep.

Not a problem when you're 20...but at 40 my ass needs to be getting 8.

But I stay on this effin' site (and others) for hours on end. I know I should log off and get to sleep so that I stop showing up to work late every morning and stop falling asleep at my desk when 2:00pm rolls around...but I am here typing up this stupid thread.

disbelief

I need to stop. I'm going to get sick or something...or fired.

What about YOU? What do you do that warrants a big ole' fishslap ???

once in a while on a week-end day i get up at day break and get on the freeway. i get into my vehicle, turn my music up very loud and drive above the speed limit (65mph) at 80-90mph. it's exhilarating. i don't do it often, but it gives me such a natural high and i love the feeling of being un-fettered by the rules of the road.

most times on the week-ends there are no cops on the road that early in the morning, because they know most people are home and not on there way to work.

mind-you i don't do this very often. when i do this, i've found it helps me to leave the stress behind.

I'm almost an insomniac, so I only get between 3 - 5 hours of sleep a day. But it always catches up to me after a while. Then I just crash out. Lately, working out has helped me get more sleep though...

most self destructive okay here we go:

I go out almost 7 nights a week. I have to DJ for 2 or 3 of them. I sleep 3 - 4 hours a night, have to get up early for work. Tend to drink lots of alcohol. When intoxicated I don't seem to remember traffic rules and tend to cross the streets without looking. I tend to fall with my bike... bruised ribs etc. I sometimes use drugs. I tend to continually search my limits, but they're so far away...... what more do you want to know heh heh, my friends think I have some kind of death wish, but I just don't want to stop when I'm having fun.....

I drive very fast, get into the 100 mph range on back roads (when I have a car that can handle it)

Got a fairly quick motorcycle this year and would speed on that

(crashed the bike last week on a mundane ride home from work so we'll see about that in the future)

You're certainly not alone, there are tons of people who practically live on messageboards/Twitter/Facebook etc. It can be very addictive and time consuming, and all that time could be put to sooo much better use. Everything in moderation, it really is a good rule to live by.

My self destructive thing is restaurants. I'm not crazy about eating out, but since so many people prefer to socialize that way I find myself doing it more and more. And of course when I'm at a restaurant I tend to eat meals that aren't very healthy and more than I normally would. And no there's no way I'm gonna go to a restaurant and eat a salad lol

I hit the gym 4 days a week so my health is great, but it's frustrating to know that the benefit I get from my one hour a day of cardio can be wiped out in the time it takes to eat one meal at Cheesecake Factory - and I usually stay away from those 1,600 calorie slices of cheesecake!

I don't have a fast car (drive an SUV right now) and it probably saved my life.

Driving fast is awesome. It does relieve stress a bit, huh?

If I still had my Grand Am with my current situation...I'd probably have wrapped it around a telephone pole by now.

If I could get 5 solid hours of sleep I'd be doing good.

We should be getting 8 - 10.

I work myself into the ground(like worked myself into the hospital 3 times in 4 years, 7 day weeks, 16 hour days hard), and will feel guilty for taking a day off, even when very sick/excessively exhausted.

I do get really exhausted/tired/stressed...but if I stop and take a day to hope the bronchitis goes away/fever breaks/back muscle tear heals/whatever illness or injury I've managed to get this time clears up.....I feel guilty and lazy and like I deserve something bad happening to me for my slothfulness.

It's really not a great way to be, it's actually kind of nuts, and I'm trying to be better at balancing my life.
