iPhone 4S Siri Answering StupID QUEStions http://mashable.com/2011/...c-question
LMAO. I knew it would get to this.
I do think that once Siri matures, it will be quite amazing. I wonder how apple perfected her 'listening' capability--there are so many accents in the USA, it stuns me that she seems to get it correct most of the time.
What company did they buy to do this?

I'm worried she won't call an ambulance

there's already a whole blog dedicated to Siri's quirkier responses.

it was an app, now it's integrated into the OS - that's a pretty big difference. They certainly aren't going to ahve a second team maintaining a stripped down version to run as an app when they have it integrated into the OS.
where did it come from?
Siri is a spin-out from the SRI International Artificial Intelligence Center, and is an offshoot of the DARPA-funded CALO project, described as perhaps the largest artificial-intelligence project ever launched.
As for how well it works I've used Siri for about a day or so now, it's quite impressive. It almost always knows what i'm saying the first time.
From any app, you hold the home button down for a second and it pops up, press it again and you're back in your app. While it's up, you can ask as many things as you want and it keeps a scrolling history of that session. "What is the weather" brings up the 5 day forecast. "Is it going to rain tonight" tells you the answer and brings up the hourly forecast
"where am I" shows your current location on a map "where is " followed by the name of a location brings up a list of whatever you asked for nearby, tells you how many miles away you are from them, and if you click on, you get those results shown in the map.
"play the album Purple Rain" stars playing the album "play purple rain" starts playing the song "play" name of list "mix" or "playlist" will start playing those songs
certainly you can get the same information by launching the web browser, going to wolfram alpha, then typing in "pi" in the search field. Siri just makes it so much easier to access the information.

Can Siri's voice be switched off? Like, just have a text answer? It's bad enough, we'll all be talking to the damn thing, but have a whole bus full of Siri's answering 'what is the meaning of life'? Please no. [Edited 10/16/11 5:07am] Hey loudmouth, shut the fuck up, right?

I like Siri. I'm impressed so far.
I'm also glad they gave it a bit of an attitude.

To be fair, I think TellMe needs different kinds of commands to function properly. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid
