Is This Rude? So on facebook somebody posted a little video touring their new apartment, and I posted a comment, and then two other people commented too. Then the person who posted the video commented how they were inviting them two when they do a house warming party. But not me. Isn't it kinda rude to discuss a party in front of somebody who isn't invited? Watch me talk about Prince - http://www.youtube.com/us...ature=mhee

This is why Facebook friends are a poor substitute for real friends. And don't tell me "But they ARE my real friends!" If they were, you'd already be seeing them instead of posting on some ridiculous computer program.

Just post a pic of somebodies bare ass with the caption, "Well you're not invited to my party, either."
That ought to take care of it.

I'm inclined to agree. This is one of the many reasons why I disabled my FB page. At the end of the day, my REAL friends are the ones who call me up to see how I'm doing or hang out, etc. and vice versa. Plus its extremely easy for folks to misinterpret things that are posted in cyber world. [Edited 10/15/11 13:48pm] I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Here's the thing: If you have...say...200 Facebook "friends," would you invite all of them to a party?
On one hand, it's stupid to mention having a party knowing that a gazillion people will see that and either a) think they're invited or b) get all butthurt because they aren't.
On the other hand, knowing that it isn't really feasible to issue a blanket invitation to a party, why get all wrapped around the axle if you aren't invited? Are you really that close (in terms of actual friendship or proximity) to this person?
Get over it. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

nah man.
that whole "let's all hang out with people who we have nothing much in common with but we all live in the same area" definition of "friendship" is some seriously neanderthal 20th century mentality.
i would rather have 20 friends in 20 different cities all over the world that i have loads in common with and can hit up any of those cities any time and be welcome, than have 20 friends who all live in my city and we could hang out every day but not really have that much in common with.
obviously theres a balance but i don't think the only definition of "a real friend" is someone you hang out with IRL all the time. [Edited 10/15/11 14:25pm] |

I haven't seen the convo, of course, but it occurs to me that there might not be any party, but they were just making a comment about "we'll have to have you over sometime" and it had nothing to do with excluding you. My Legacy

I hope my reply wasn't too harsh. I wasn't trying to be rude. I think you're a very, very sweet young lady and you're far too interesting and have way too much to offer to worry about what some people on a computer think.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
No it's not rude. It's presumptuous to assume to automatically be invited to anything not being thrown by one-self. Someone throwing a party should be able to speak about it publicly without pressure. And when they don't then they're accused of being sneaky. Just can't win.

Thanks. I didn't want to make this young girl feel bad. From what I've seen of her, she's very sweet and would be the shining star of any party lucky enough to have her.

Although you quite usually make decent and valid points and come across very intelligently, the way you write can be condescending to the point of being offensive.
Respectfully, you could learn to be a little nicer in your wording. It's FB ~ a social media where people are rude ... or not
and most don't care what others think about their actions or lack there off
I find that rude ... yes, but that's just me
