discuss Johnart's art....here!!

ok....on the wall, are what I consider typical Johnart art. curves, round images...

the new piece is rather linear with sharp angles, which to me, outside of the martini series, is not a typical Johnart piece of art.

I think what is most appealing to me, is the particular shade of Prince Purple.

did you pencil in the straight lines, and are now filling in?

did you free form the lines?

why did you choose to wear those clothes? they put 30 pounds on you!

is there music system in your studio?

what about Mary, the other artist in your studio....has she asked about me?

how long do your brushes last, before you have to buy new ones. Are you sentimental about your brushes? Is there a particular brand that you prefer using?

did you study art in school/college?

did you know Bettina has started painting?

I admit I don't know very much about contemporary painting, or the what John's peers or immediate predecessors are doing. But based on what I see, I am really impressed that he has a distinct style. That is what jumps out first.

It's simple, yet it refined and has purpose. The design elements give it broad appeal, and it is really easy to imagine hanging in a great number of different settings, from Crappers to MOCAs.

Also, while it is aesthetically pleasing and accessible to the average person, I don't see it as pandering to the masses in any way.

I love his glasses and the fact that there is not one single spot of paint on them.

I will chop his wiener off if he dares! The beard STAYS!

What I meant is that he still hasn't painted men with beards! That's what is UTTERLY wrong with his art.

(grin)

And the ONLY thing wrong with his art, as it's fucking gorgeous.

shrug It is not as if he looks like a Puerto Rican Santa Claus. Maybe he is getting ready for the colder months ahead?

Thanks!

What makes the frames even more appropriate is that I bought them at Gay Church! lol

The mats are actually charcoal (you know me and mismatched blacks). And they have a little texture to them, so they look like leather. I'm very happy with the way they turned out. cool

did you free form the lines?

I created the shapes and lines in various ways. Some shapes I "drew" with tape, painted over then peeled off to reveal the lines. Some things I freehanded onto paper and cut out my own stencils. Some things I rolled on. Some brused on.

why did you choose to wear those clothes? they put 30 pounds on you!

It's mostly the apron you bitch

is there music system in your studio?

what about Mary, the other artist in your studio....has she asked about me?

Why don't we ask her? biggrin

I've been unable to sleep. I've been going without food and drinking like a filthy Irishmen. I do hope to type on a computer near you soon. Also you should totally buy the painting John just finished (as I helped him with the entire piece he really should give me a piece of the commission, I'm being totally serious!)

She didn't fuckin touch that painting. She's a filthy liar.

how long do your brushes last, before you have to buy new ones. Are you sentimental about your brushes? Is there a particular brand that you prefer using?

No particular brand but I am totally sentimental about my brushes and paints. I hate throwing out any art supplies. There's one particular brush I love and use all the time and haven't been able to find an exact replacement. sad

did you study art in school/college?

Aside from regular art class in high school and costume design courses in college, no. I went to college for acting and playwriting.

did you know Bettina has started painting?

eek
