Yesterday, I was talking to someone [a women] about hair, & she brought up how she didn't like certain hair-do's & styles. She obviously didn't know the proper names for the hairstyles whatsoever, & I was correcting her & filling in the blanks.

Next thing you know, She was trying to insinuate that I may be "suspect"/gay for knowing too much about hair. This was hilarious to me, because she had no clue That my Grandmother, Mother, & 3 of her female siblings were [& still] Beauticians. My grandmother ran her own Hair salon for a few decades, & I pretty much grew up in hair salons. My mother still does hair today, & therefore I tend to know a lot more about hair than the average straight guy [I guess ].

I know about lacefronts, pieces, fusions, & all that shit just because my mom points stuff out/shows me this stuff [I even know about quite a few different hair weaving techniques too]. I can pretty much pinpoint synthetic hair [even on female & male celebrities] & everything....

So is it "gay" for a straight man to know all about this stuff? I personally think it's a stereotype [but i could be wrong].....

No, I'm pretty sure the only thing that makes one "gay" is to be sexually attracted to the same sex.

A straight guy cut my hair for nearly 30 years. He followed his parents into the family business.

You should recommend the movie "Shampoo" to that woman.

It is not "gay" to be able see geometric angles and shapes that flatter facial features... this should be the same with men or women.

If any person can see another and be able to see how a hairstyle will flatter them that is seeing shapes/color. I think it makes a person who can do this "artistic" not "gay".

It's an old stereotype that if you are a man and you are knowledgeable about women's beauty/fashion, then you must be gay. While I don't personally know any straight men who know about women's hairstyles, I'm gay and I didn't even know women had names for their hairstyles.

They're generally very generic, long-standing names. I would be willing to bet that you know what a "bob" is. Or a "shag." Or a "pixie" (which is really just a very short shag).

Pretty much every woman's hairstyle (for white girls, anyway) is a variation on the bob or the shag - or a combination of the two in varying measures.
