Netflix: How to destroy your business in a few easy steps The latest installment of, "Ooops...our bad" just landed in my emailbox...
Dear Genesia,
It is clear that for many of our members two websites would make things more difficult, so we are going to keep Netflix as one place to go for streaming and DVDs.
This means no change: one website, one account, one password…in other words, no Qwikster. While the July price change was necessary, we are now done with price changes.
We're constantly improving our streaming selection. We've recently added hundreds of movies from Paramount, Sony, Universal, Fox, Warner Bros., Lionsgate, MGM and Miramax. Plus, in the last couple of weeks alone, we've added over 3,500 TV episodes from ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS, USA, E!, Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, ABC Family, Discovery Channel, TLC, SyFy, A&E, History, and PBS. We value you as a member, and we are committed to making Netflix the best place to get your movies & TV shows.
Respectfully,
The Netflix Team

I think when they announced the original price hike and two separate companies, the general public really looked at how many DVD's per month they actually watch. That made them decide to drop the DVD service. And I think many people are realizing how much more cost effective Red Box is to their lifestyles. I don't know about you guys but the amount of movies I watch is not consistent. Some weeks I barely have time to watch tv at all. I may go back to the DVD, with the colder months coming. I bought a nook and am going to get back to reading instead.
When I think of how much I used to read, I'm almost embarrassed at how little of it I do now. It's been replaced almost entirely by watching movies. Well, ya know what? Most of the movie channels just show the same stuff over and over. I've dropped HBO and Encore recently, too. I still have TCM (my favorite - and it's free), but I'm going to make a concerted effort to watch only if there's something I've never seen or that I really, really love - or if I'm doing something else (like sewing or cleaning) that isn't conducive to reading.
I checked out my first library book since 2004 on my nook yesterday. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I can relate to this statement
But congrats on checking out a library book!

Thanks!
I'll tell ya - it was no mean feat. Nook and Adobe Digital Editions (which you need to manage your items that aren't purchased from B&N) are not what I would call "Mac friendly." It took a lot of screwing around to figure out how to get that library book into the nook. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

This whole string of emails from them has been embarassing. As in, I'm embarassed for them.

I think it's gotten to the point now where it's more like, "Really, Netflix? " We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I dropped the dvd service when they did the price change. Im ok with just having the video stream. I haven't really checked out any of their competitors (like the new Blockbuster offering) to see if anyone out there beats their streaming service. Change it one more time..

I cancelled my subscription to them, years ago. My cable, with all the movie and "One Demand" channels are enough. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

Well, I still keep them since I got them because I missed having the IFC (independent film channel) but didn't want to pay that much money a month just to end up with one channel I enjoyed all the time, so with Netflix I can at least see some of those movies I'd miss otherwise. And since a lot of those don't stream, I hardly ever streamed any movies in the first place, I think I did it once. Red Box is too limited, I use it just to get those movies I missed in theatre that I'm somewhat curious about, I can go for weeks without renting anything from them, and Blockbusters pissed me off when they changed their rental prices mid-stream about a year and half ago, but they keep changing up on that so we'll see I might convert back to them. Everybody's testing the water trying to see how much they can get out of the consumer, I see no difference in any of them.
