Dang, nobody saw my review a couple of weeks ago?! That must've been in the last, somehow locked wrestling thread.
Lemme see if I can find it....
Ah yes, here it is:

Who saw Raw last night? So, the tag champs, the US champ, and the WWE champ all got pinned??? So, um, why are they champions again?? God, the booking sucks!
And don't even get me started on the whole Muppets interaction and those skits! I actually like the Muppets, but not mixed in with these guys, though the Sheamus/Beaker skit was halfway entertaining. WWE's already hella corny enough as it is. And of course, Rock accepted Cena's invite to team up at Survivor Series. Yeah Rock, like we thought it was in doubt, especially seeing as how you fuckin' tweeted the PPV poster to everybody WEEKS ago!
And, they're saying Trips will be out for 5 weeks due the Nash's "brutal" attack last week, and that Nash will be on Raw next week. Um, for what??? If Trips ain't there, there's no need for that lumbering goof to be there either. What, he's going to limp his ass to the ring and bust a promo with Laryngitis? Whatevs.

They should just... I don't know what they should do but they're truly running out of fucking options!

I know you paid special attention to the Divas match
You're right, we knew his ass was gonna say yes. It's been known since....what? Summerslam? I swear these fools don't know how to build hype for a PPV anymore. Remember when there was ONE PPV a month and anticipation was built around it?
Remember when you HAD to watch the big 4? Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, Summerslam, and Survivor Series? Those days are gone "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Hell - I remember when those were the only WWF PPVs of the year.
They still turned out some stinkers, but it was much better back then. A lot more buildup that made sense, you know?
Now it's just a money grab and it blows my mind that they still get over 100,000 people to buy their shit every month.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Not only that, but because their TV shows back then always had the stars facing jobbers, the PPVs were the only times where the big boys wrestled each other, making it all the more "special". Now, everybody wrestles everybody every damn week. So, the PPVs have lost that "special" factor.
Though, if they did go back to 4 PPVs a year, those cards - you would think - would be pretty special/good. I know they're talking about putting all of their PPVs on their upcoming network for "free", and only having the big 4 stay as actual pay-per-views.

Oh God, that Divas costume match was BRUTAL!!!!! No one even dressed up in a sexy outfit or anything. It was a REAL costume match! WTF?!!! Such are these kid-friendly, rated PG times!!
And what in the hell happened with the JR/Cole match? Don't get me wrong; I'm forever grateful it never happened, but SOMETHING had to have happened at the last minute to force JR out of it. Hmmm...inquiring minds want to know.

While we're getting a little nostalgic, there's something I've been wondering about. I was reading about how much money the Rock and Austin made during their hot runs and there was talk of who was the biggest draw ever. The prevailing opinion was that Austin was the biggest draw in wrestling history and I just don't buy that.
Nowadays and during the Attitude Era, the WWF does/did a show in a city every few months. TV may be different, but house shows have been sporadic since the mid-late 90s. Here in San Diego they come once every 5-6 months. During the height of Hulkamania, the WWF did a house show at the San Diego Sports Arena EVERY MONTH. Right before the last match they would announce the main event for next month and tickets went on sale immediately after. I went to pretty much every WWF house show from Feb 87 - June 92. They were usually packed (9,000 in a 13,000 seat arena) but if Hogan was on the card, no matter who he was fighting, there wasnt an empty seat to be found. And I swear - if they did 12 shows a year, Hogan main evented 8 or 9 of them. The night after the MegaPowers broke up on NBC there was a house show at the Sports Arena headlined by Hogan vs. Big Bossman. Again - not an empty seat, and practically everyone had some type of Hogan gear on...a foam finger, headband, T-shirt, whatever. And these were all house shows - no cameras, no TV. This was the norm...and I'm sure it was this way in every city they hit.
I just find it hard to believe that anyone ever outdrew Hogan. Maybe they made more money in the Attitude Era because of the multiple PPVs, etc, but I still don't buy Austin/Rock/HHH/Michaels as a bigger draw.
As much as I despised him then and still do now, Hogan is hands down the biggest draw in wrestling history.

I'm sure you watched last week when Beth's breast almost came out
The JR segment DID happen, but apparently, it was edited out "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

I wonder what their scheduling was like then because now, they do a show everynight I think. Those guys rarely get a night off "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Don't they run house shows Fri-Sun, TV Mon and Tues? I know it's different if they're touring Mexico or something. I'm not sure though.
Back in the day, they NEVER got a night off. Hell - Jim Crockett Promotions would sometimes do two shows a day in bordering cities.
I wonder about the WWF full schedule back then...like I said, they ran San Diego every month but I also know they ran Los Angeles, San Francisco, Madison Square Garden and Boston Garden on a monthly basis as well. And I'm sure there were other big cities that got that monthly treatment.
Vince was making money hand over fist.

Sting talked about that a couple of years ago. He said prior to the 1990 Great American Bash, he and Ric had done a couple of warm matches in house shows before the PPV, and I think even did one at a house show on the same day prior to the PPV "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Saturday TV in Charlotte/Atlanta, plus a matinee in one city and a nightcap in another - added to their weekly shows Sun-Thurs up and down Tobacco Road...JCP put in work!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
and those guys still found time to get laid and drunk...and STILL put on a good show "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
How was it edited out when the show was live? Did they decide to do it after the cameras stopped rolling?
And no man, I missed Raw the preevious week. I didn't even bother looking at it. Damn! Now I'm gonna have to download just to see the ALMOST-titty moment!!! Though if you're listening L4OA, it's nothing I don't see EVERY night!! *waa haw*

Actually they were the Big 5 if you counted Saturday Night Main Event.
Instead of the WWE wasting their money on disappointing PPV events, they need to bring back SNME on a monthly basis on regular TV.

Breaking Update: Evan Bourne's WWE Suspension
By Ryan Clark | November 01, 2011 | Comments (68)
Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter WWE announced Tuesday they have suspended performer Evan Bourne for 30 days effective immediately for his first violation of the company's Talent Wellness Program.
WWE issued a press release stating: "In accordance with its Talent Wellness Program, WWE has suspended Matthew Korklan (Evan Bourne) for 30 days effective immediately for his first violation of the company's policy."
Bourne's suspension was not unexpected since he was summoned to a meeting with WWE officials at Monday's RAW SuperShow in Atlanta, Georgia regarding a recent violation of their Substance Abuse and Drug Testing Policy (a component of the Talent Wellness Program), which according to corporate.wwe.com, "prohibits the use of drugs by talent for other than a legitimate medical purpose pursuant to a valid prescription from a licensed and treating physician."
WWE employees were surprised he and Kofi Kingston didn't lose the Tag Team Championship on RAW. The duo is now expected to drop the titles at tonight's SmackDown! in Greenville, North Carolina since his suspension has been publicly announced.
Many WWE performers believe the recent rash of suspensions is tied to Talent Wellness Program administers cracking down on usage of synthetic cannabis, which was added to the banned substances list in June. Sold under the brand names K2 and Spice, the substance was banned for at least a year effective March 1, 2011 by the Drug Enforcement Administration so they could study its effects more thoroughly and decide whether a permanent ban is necessary.
Bourne is the third WWE performer to be suspended in the past month, following Darren Young and Heath Slater.

Even with Steve Austin and/or The Rock as their main blue clip player, the WWE's Attitude Era was definitely a team effort. The same thing can be said about the WWE's New Generation Era regardless if it was Bert Hart and/or Shawn Michaels as the main blue clip player.
WWE's Rock 'N Wresting/Hulkmania era was definitely about Hulk Hogan as THE main blue clip player, no question about it. Even when the WWE title were given to Randy Savage, The Ultimate Warrior, AND Ric Flair (a man who I strongly believe was THE real World Heavyweight Champion of Pro Wrestling in the 1980's!) there were still too many fans that were not ready to let Hulk go as easily as Vince McMahon would have liked to.
