GRATUITOUS SEX SCENES

Do you find most movies today have nudity or sex scenes in them....just because?

In other words, have audiences become so feeble minded, or horny, that we can't enjoy a film unless there are lady boobs or man ass on display?

^ How did this happen? Some of the best films I've enjoyed, many of them classics, have next to no nudity in them.

It must be our telepathy HotGritz, becuase I was thinking just today about sex scenes are movies and tv: Are they ever REALLY necessary? What were some awful ones (Tany's Island, Vanity getting humped by the ape disbelief ) What are some decent ones, if any? ( confuse )

IMO they are almost always gratuitous and not needed... shrug Just my .02

What was the movie with Richard gere and Diane lane, they were married... Unfaithful??, that one had some decent sex scenes... Not alot of nudity but I felt the scenes were "kinda" necessary to the movie to put you in her "state of mind"

It beats having to come up with a cohesive entertaining storyline. Hey, you get to see so and so's tits, and whats his name's butt that's worth the cost of production alone, isn't it? The demographics speak for themselves, it's what the people want.

spit The worse man ass I ever saw on screen was Pierce Brosnan. Ooh lord it was traumatizing.

I must say though, there is hardly the same amount of male nudity in film as there is female nudity. Men are nowhere nearly as objectified. A woman's boobs, ass and frontal twat are often just thrown out there for no good reason.

I feel nudity improves most fillms, if it is gratuitous then it is an added bonus to the film

I have seen some wonderful films especially older ones with no nudity, but wouldn't it have been great to see those women naked.

What really bothers me is when a film needs sex for the storyline and they still have no nudity: woman lying in bed after being sure to cover herself.

Now I'm older than movies, Now I'm wiser than dreams, And I know who's there

no, mens' asses are used probably more for comedy than for sex. I think for sex you are right that women are more objectified. Sometimes that is not true. I watched Nip Tuck a few times, and it was nothing but thrusting mens' asses.

But in these sophomoric sex comedies where we used to see boobs, now we're seeing Will Ferrel and Zack Galfaninakannanas butts shake

I admit, though, I am biased. Perhaps I don't notice the good as much as the bad

nod When people have sex with their clothes on. That's weird to me.

To your first point, I don't feel that nudity improves most films but I do agree that sometimes, emphasis on sometimes, its an added bonus to the film. I didn't get the next to opening scene in 28 Days Later where a nude Cilliam Murphy is laying in his hospital bed, full frontal, but I appreciated it only because I find him extremely hot. lol Bonus!

Well, it's horror movie season. And horror movies are worst at doing this lol

From the 80's to current, there is a gratious naked chick or 10 for no reason other then for TNA razz

And is a guys naked it is usuallyf or comedy purposes.... which is lame. Especially as mentioned if they show an ass.

Does anyone know whether or not its' true that if you show a penis on screen for more than 60 seconds the film automatically gets an NC 17/X rating? Or is it an erect penis only?

Am I just a minority here in thinking that there's a lot less gratuitous nudity and sex scenes in mainstream movies troday than there was back in the late 1970's and early 1980's? I remember back in the 70's when you had movies like Last Tango In Paris, Looking For Mr. Goodbar, Taxi Driver, Pretty Baby, and the like, where there were not only lots of nudity but some pretty graphic sex scenes and some upfront shots of women's genitalia. And you had the really raunchy teen sex comedies that derived from Animal House, which itself had a lot of nudity, which led to movies like Porky's, Revenge of the Nerds, The Last American Virgin, My Tutor, and Class, which was a teen MILF comedy where Andrew McCarthy (pre-brat pack) had a sexual relationship with Rob Lowe's mother. In fact, The Last Amerian Virgin even had a scene that featured a penis measuring contest which featured a lot of visible boners behind tighty whitey underwear. omg And of course, all of the popular horror movies of the time (Halloween, Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street) had a bunch of very horny teenagers just waiting to be slashed up by Michael Myers, Jason Voorhies, and Freddy Kreuger the minute they took their clothes off.

The nudity/sex quotient went downhill after 9-1/2 Weeks and after the John Hughes movies became really popular. Basic Instinct was scandalous for its time because no a-list actress was going commando on screen and letting the world see their private parts. Sure, there were some straight-to-video and Cinemax movies in the 90's starring various Playboy playmates and Penthouse Pets that were laden with full frontal nudity and gratuitous sex scenes, but they were not mainstream. And these days, I'd argue that there's a lot more nudity and sex on pay cable TV shows then on the big screen.

No, you are correct. And don't forget all the grindhouse movies from back then. cloud9 When I was younger I watched all those movies you mentioned and then some just FOR the nudity and the sex. No that I'm an old man of 37 ( with access to a lot of IRL nude women lurking ) it's all just so blah...

Yes that or a bunch of clevage. However the worst is in horror movies right before they are torn to pieces. Always has been and probably always will be. Remember The Shining? I still have nightmares thinking about that naked old woman eek

The sex in that movie was not gratuitous if you got the whole point of the film.

We see a civilized, simple, meek mild nice guy who is in denial of his past until it's violently forced upon him. This is an allegory for the primal instincts of man/animal, masked by thousands of years of civilization.

Even the sex scenes reflected that. The first one being somewhat "cute" and sugarcoated to be a leisure activity as opposed to a biological necessity, the latter being strictly primal and an act of dominance.

Many movies have gratuitous sex scenes though, sure, but most of them are terrible.

"Knowledge is preferable to ignorance. Better by far to embrace the hard truth than a reassuring faith. If we crave some cosmic purpose, then let us find ourselves a worthy goal" - Carl Sagan

I have to admit, that's why I rarely see any popular blockbuster movies. I usually kinda comb and shop around for festival films or just look for something with a specific actor or director when I'm in the mood for a movie these days.

i get the feeling they toss in the sex scenes when the writer run out of ideas for plot and character development. kind of like the default setting.

what i really dislike is when thje gratuitous sex is mixed in with violence so that the audience is conditioned to feel arousal in conjunction with watching violent acts. creeptastic, that.

ps when i feel like the writers or directors are trying to play me with that gratuitous sex crap i put the movie on fast forward and watch it thus. now that's amusing big grin
