Removing The Twin Towers from old movies?

I was watching Leon last night and the very last scene, where Matilda is planting Leon's plant, as the camera lifts to view the New York skyline the Twin Towers have been airbrushed out.

They were however other street scenes where they were visible, albeit briefly.

This was also noticed the last time I watched Home Alone 2....Although there is even a montage of him at the WTC.

Is this the norm now?

I'm not sure if I agree with this as they should be remembered proudly.

I could probably understand this with dvd's that were re-released just after 9/11 but with films coming out 7 or 8 years later?

what do you think?

Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

Friends dvd has the twin towers in them. But when they rerun on tv the edit them out.

Don't need to edit them out.

I find it eerie to see them in old movies/TV. I bet some market research discovered that a lot of people felt that way and that is why they decided to get rid of them. Not respect, just marketing

But I don't think they should be edited out. They were there, and people should not pretend they were not just because it makes them not have to remember something unpleasant.

That's terrible sad I want to keep seeing them, granted I didn't lose a loved one on 9/11 but I'd like to keep remembering

I could see editing them out of some shows for tv run in NEW YORK for obvious reasons.

I remember when they removed them from the open of the Sex and the City TV series immediately after 9/11 - which I thought was okay. But can you imagine that beautiful New York skyline in Moonstruck (for example) without the towers? I can't - and I don't want to.

They should leave that stuff alone.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

whofarted

Are they SERIOUSLY doing this crap?!?!?!

disbelief

You can't change the past. You can't pretend that they never existed.

It's creepy (in an Orwellian sense) for this to go on.

Actually it angers me. mad

this is from IMDB trivia for Leon.....

Keith A. Glascoe, who played the enormous Benny, or 3rd Stansfield Man, later became a member of the New York Fire Department, Ladder Company 21 in Hells Kitchen. Courageously he died in the collapse of the World Trade Center towers on Sept. 11, 2001.

I wonder if this is why they removed them from Leon then?

I suppose, with all the will in the world, you can't NOT see them on film and some bit of you (even if for the briefest second) hark back to the last time we saw them...and that'll break the flow and 4th wall.

The event should never ever be forgotten and I'm not sure I get the point (other than above) when a film is set before that day...I guess they're just such a strong icon nowadays

I hear pretending things were never there totally cures post traumatic stress.

Please. The buildings existed and they don't now, but removing them from movies and shit which were filmed in NY when they -did exist- is just plain silly and borders on subterfuge.

I'm very sure in the first spiderman movie, there was supposed to be a scene of him trapping a helicopter in a web between the two towers. That was the image on the promotional posters, and it would have served as a scene that would make spiderman famous (In the movie they just sorta jumped to everyone talking about him being a hero). But it didnt make the final cut for reasons we all know.

Yeah there was...the first trailer had that scene in and it was obviousl dropped. The WTC was also featured in the movie quite a bit but, with a few exceptions, all scenes were removed.

Maybe, in that case, it was fair enough...the film did come out only 9 months after the event

That is quite disturbing.

I like to think of film, (beyond the actual plot, acting etc) as being a snapshot in time too... as someone else said it's is worryingly Orwellian and utterly disdrespectful to those that lost their lives that day.

It's bizarre that Americans spend all their time going on about things that don't exist ie: gods, but try to erase and deny things that do and did exist.

What a crock! Damn! Those towers were a part of the New York skyline, so why have them removed from old movies? That doesn't make an iota of sense to me. Oh, and the movie staring "Leon" is called The Professional; one of my favorites. highfive

Now that I get. It was a timing issue.

As far as movies that were released prior to the attack..I have to agree with previous posters. They serve as a memorial so keep them in.

Yeah it's one of my favourites too...Luc Besson never really did much better...The Fith Element I suppose was good...I couldn't tell you what else he directed.

I think it depends where the movie was released by it's title..in the UK it's only ever been known as "Leon"

I am aware of it being released as "Leon - The Professional" elsewhere.

What a terrible thing to do. They were an iconic part of New York's skyline. They should not just be erased as if they never existed sad

If you will, so will I

No they shouldn't edit the Twin Towers out of movies pre 9/11 tragedy. That's like erasing history.

Erasing the towers would mean it never happened and this is wrong.

We all - Americans and Other Western Countries - should be proud that they have been

there. And yeah we should, and more over the following generations, be reminded about what happened even if it is this second while watching a film.

It's re-writing history and, even though it is done with good intentions, it is censorship.
