When did you

know what your passion and fortes are, and made it work?

So, how did you get the work that you are currently in and are you using your talents and passion for it?

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

When I was in 9th grade in my class at school they handed each student a class roll list and you had to write beside each name which career you believed would suit them. Next to my name everyone wrote "sign writer" except my 3 friends who wrote "record cover designer". In 10th grade we got our hands on university course guides and when I found the course blurb and materials list for graphic design I could look no further love it was a match made in heaven :cloud9:

It IS my passion and I'm very lucky to get paid for something I'd happily do just for fun (don't tell my clients!!!)

I remember when I was in the first grade, my teacher let all of the students go before the class & tell everyone what they wanted to be when they grow. So, I got up, went to the front of the class, and said "When I grow up, I want to be Michael Jackson & Lion-O". Of course everyone laughed. But I didn't realize how much I loved music. Nowdays I make music, & hopefully, My music will be heard by everybody one day....

Still trying to figure them out I think lol

I work in science (specifically genetics) and I think I am pretty good at my job, but I often wonder if this is really what I am meant to be doing, or if I might be better at something else.

If you will, so will I

I am very good at my job and fairly successful but I have no passion for it. My job allows me to pursue my interests outside of work.

Perhaps someday I’ll figure out how to sustain a life doing something I love, but I haven’t figured that out yet.

I was very artistic/creative and thought that I'd be either an artist or a fashion designer (even accepted into F.I.T.).

Then in college I decided that I wanted to be financially successful so I wanted to be an architect (I've always liked architecture and still do) but my fear of mathematics led me to "compromise" with pursuing Interior Design (lil' bit of architecture and lil; bit of design).

Now I design fire alarm systems for a living. sigh

About as creative or exciting as raking hay for a living most times.

How did I get into it...desperate for money after the government bent me over and fucked me hard in the ass with tuition fees and student loans.

Do I use my talents and passion - 100% no way. Complete opposite of what I studied long and hard for...but that work isn't about or paying well. I'm bloody good at what I do, I'm the 'go to guy' for some big cheeses and my role is unique...but it's not me (and I've been there 11 years)

And no, I can't tell you - it's to do with death but I'm not an assassin or anything dodgy smile

I got the Work I am currently in through an Employment Agency.

Not really difficult work, I drive Cars confused

Not my Passion, nor Ambition, but I gave up work to look after my Kids and now, after 5 years or so, I am finding it hard to get back into things, Employers don't like us Men who choose to be responsible razz razz

The only Job I have had that I had any passion for was when I worked on the Land, Farming both Livestock and Produce.

I always wanted to be a Pilot, but the costs involved for the Licenses put this way out of my reach sad I guess I kind of gave up on my Dreams now and focus on surviving day to day.

Life is short, don't be a dick.

R.I.P Prince - Thank you for your Music, Your Talent and for helping me find out who I was and am.

Options with less responsibilities (no kids/mortgage) can open more opportunities for such work. I just did regular work while doing my craft. I have acted, directed, produced, & written a variety of projects. I have always profited from my artistic endeavors-but the work requires long hours and hard work. I have recently decided to retire from acting (not that I wont ever-just if asked and it peaks my interest.) I have never had a strong desire to act-It just came natural. I rather like being me. I never really knew I wanted to be until I was 10, thats when I decided to be an archaeologist (With thanks to Indiana Jones), I flirted with being a dentist from 12 to 15, until I relaised how much training it takes and the cost, plus the fact you are looking in peoples mouths all the time (Yuk). I finally went back to archaeology when I was 16, did the courses at university (Going to university was a big achievement at my school) and got the Masters degree, but never actually found work, so I switched to my plan B - teaching, might as well put good use to my ex$pensive degrees (We have costly student loans in this country). Have done some relief teaching and going after a proper position this year (School years start in February here).

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Actually in another life, I would've loved to have pursued Archaeology.

Deciphering heiroglyphs, finding relics and uncovering ancient tombs...how awesome would that be!?!?!?!?

I even subscribed to Archaeology magazine... geek

How right you are, I buried things in my back yard and "excavated them". That was until, one of my buried items, a rubber skeleton, got its arm dislodged in a cracked sewer pipe and blocked up our plumbing. I was about 12. Also somewhere my collection of smurfs remains buried.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Very similar to my path but you actually chose an option I toyed with.

I always wanted to be a vet when I was a kid but later really got into Biology, genetics, taxonomy etc and subsequently went to Uni (again an achievement considering the school I went to and bullying situation)...went on to do a Masters in those and graduated with acspring in my step...only to get a bit 'fuck you' at every turn. I've told the story before how I got picked up by a company who asked me to interview because I'd done work on toxicology during my studies...turns out they wanted me to do animal testing to which I said 'no thank you' when it was revealed - this was at a time when I was desperate for money so it was, whilst a no-brained decision, one I'm proud of making. Everyother job I was interested in saw the opportunity to exploit my desire by asking for several YEARS unpaid voluntary work before considering me for a job. Needless to say I fell into doing what I do and with money still a big factor, so many years away from being fresh of knowledge and with no experience to counteract that, I won't ever do what I set out to do...but I did toy with teaching myself - again though it's time and money I can not afford to even get trained up to doing that. Maybe one day smile

I still have yet to realize it. My current work I fell into by happenstance I guess. Just how shit played out. But I don't love what I do. I don't know what I would love doing either. I'm not that passionate about many things if anything. I admire when people are though.
