Hank Williams Jr. bounced from Monday Night Football after controversial comments about Obama

Hank Williams Jr. won't be ready for some football this Monday night.

ESPN bounced Williams' trademark opening "Are you ready for some football?" after the longtime voice of Monday Night Football's theme song, after he compared President Obama to Adolf Hitler.

"While Hank Williams, Jr. is not an ESPN employee, we recognize that he is closely linked to our company through the open to Monday Night Football," an ESPN spokesman wrote in an email to the Daily News.

"We are extremely disappointed with his comments, and as a result we have decided to pull the open from tonight's telecast."

The award-winning country singer made the controversial comparison in an interview on Fox and Friends Monday morning in a bizarre chat about politics.

Williams began his TV appearance by slamming the GOP presidential candidates and saying House Majority Leader John Boehner's golf game with Obama was a huge mistake.

"You remember the golf game they had? That was one of the biggest political mistakes ever. That turned a lot of people off. It just didn't go over," he said.

When asked what about the game he didn't like, Williams Jr. pointed to the participants.

"Come on, come on, that would be like Hitler playing golf with [Israeli prime minister Benjamin] Netanyahu," he said. "In the shape this country is in?"

When host Brian Kilmeade said he didn't understand the analogy, Williams Jr. replied "I'm glad you don't brother, because a lot of people do. They're the enemy... Obama! And Biden! Are you kidding? The Three Stooges."

It was not clear who the third stooge was in that analogy.

"The one that makes the most sense is Hermann Cain," he said, of the Republican field.

The hosts noted Williams once supported Sarah Palin.

"Boy was I … I don't know, like I said guys they've turned a lot of people off," he said. "Look at USA Today poll, 89% said Congress should be completely replaced. I agree with them. The healthcare bill doesn't fly either."

Gretchen Carlson then brought up that he obviously wasn't a fan of the President or Congress working together to find compromise.

"We're more polarized than we've ever been guys, I'm not going to sugarcoat it …" he said.

"Well you didn't," she said. "You used the name of one of the most hated people in the entire world to describe the President …"

Williams Jr. then smirked and said "Well that's true. But I'm telling you like it is … Like Fred Thompson said you may not want to ask me a question because I'll give you too straight of an answer."

Country singer Hank Williams Jr. had some controversial words about President Obama.

He compares Obama to Hitler and then complains that we're polarized? He calls the President and the Vice President of the United States of America the enemy?

You see, I am 100% right when I say that no one - and I mean no one - has ever damaged the United States of America more than Rush Limbaugh.

It's obvious ol' Hank has never studied U.S. history. Americans have ALWAYS been polarized on many issues. It's nothing new - it's in our nature.

We've always disagreed on things - heck, we even fought a war against one another over some important issues. But that was 150 years ago. Since then, the political discourse moved more and more to the center.

And then Rush Limbaugh came along in 1983 or so, and realized that he could create quite a story if he had good guys and bad guys. Politically, he's a Republican, so who could be the bad guys?

The Russians were out - it was obvious the Cold War was over and we won. So who could he scare his audience with?

He chose his fellow Americans. He decided to cast his fellow Americans as enemies of the state. And he became unbelievably rich in doing so.

Others saw what he'd done and took it to even more extreme levels. Not because they truly thought "liberals" really want to destroy the USA. No, they did it because they wanted money, too.

So Ann Coulter, Michael Savage, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Mark Levin and dozens of others filled the airwaves with hate. They were the new shock jocks, only this time they were influencing how people voted and, more importantly, how they felt about their fellow American.

It didn't used to be that way. Rush Limbaugh made it that way.

And that's why Rush Limbaugh has damaged the United States of America more than anyone in history.

I am 100% right about that.

Here's Hank's response to getting dropped last night. rolleyes

Williams responded with a statement of his own, saying in part: "Some of us have strong opinions and are often misunderstood. My analogy was extreme – but it was to make a point. I was simply trying to explain how stupid it seemed to me – how ludicrous that pairing was. They're polar opposites and it made no sense. They don't see eye-to-eye and never will. I have always respected the office of the president."

ESPN has not said whether it will reinstate the Williams intro, which has been in place since 1989. The song is a remix of Williams's song "All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight," and its use as the Monday Night Football theme has won the singer four Emmy Awards.

Don't you hate when these fools try to rationalize their extreme views? It's so damn phoney! Why not just be a real man and have the balls to say the REAL reason you dislike Obama?!

rolleyes Somebody should tell this idiot that Obama and Boehner are "polar opposites" because they're from different parties. There is a reason why we have more than one party! They're not supposed to agree on everything! Americans prove time and time again that they want a divided government. If he thinks that's stupid,he needs to get his stupid, extremist ass out of America!

Just when I was seriously trying to develop an appreciation for Country music, this asshole has to remind me of why I was never crazy about that genre in the first place (which mirrors my opinion of much of Reggae music, with the exception of a few artists: Same hate, different focus). Typical Southern Redneck. What?!? Someone was expecting him to say something intelligent? Sadly, a certain segment of our society will never accept Black people as their equal. Although thankfully, with each passing day that segment is coming ever closer to the end of their journey on this earth.

If Heaven ain't a lot like Dixie

I don't wanna go

If Heaven ain't a lot like Dixie

I'd just assume stay home

If they ain't got a Grand Ole Opry

Like they do in Tennessee

Just sent me to Hell or New York City

It would be about the same to me

I could accept someone comparing obama to hitler just to make a point about enemies. He wasn't saying Obama is like hitler because he is commiting genocide. It could have been Darth Vadar and Obi Wan or Ali & Foreman or Itchy & Scratchy

But I hate the fact that people see the two parties as enemies! Obama and Boehner are not enemies. They are on the same team. And I hate that someone could be discouraged by seeing two sides getting together when that is the best thing for this country that they could possibly do.

I also hate that a news station in this country had Hank fucking Williams Jr give his political opinions lol Well...actually that may have helped Obama, so maybe I don't mind it so much.

Hank Williams' Apology:

"The thought of the leaders of both parties jukin and high fiven on a golf course, while so many families are struggling to get by simply made me boil over and make a dumb statement, and I am very sorry if it offended anyone."

Translation:

"The thought of a Black man on a golf course where he doesn't belong, acting as if he was equal to White people simply made me boil over and speak from my heart, and I am very sorry that I've exposed how deeply racist I truly am, and sincerely hope it doesn't affect my carreer."

What's most disturbing to me is the secret love and admiration American's have for Hitler. I mean is there another nation more obsessed with him than the good ole USA? How many films, documentaries, Time Warner magazines, military strategies and political discussions have we had about Hitler? Everything from his bloodlines to his love affairs to his obsession with the occult have been discussed. Downright creepy. Its almost as if you can't blame Hank. He's been weaned on Hitler and really doesn't know whom else to bring up for a comparison. Trying to make a point...yeah he certainly did. neutral
