Perhaps, if you wanted, having known it before, it wouldn't be too hard if to learn it again though. smile

I looked into it, when I was in college. Each Spanish course took up 5 credits, and I would have had to take 2 Spanish classes to qualify for the one that counts towards my degree. sigh So I didn't do it.

I'd love to learn Portuguese, but Spanish would be great! I'll have to see how things go...I just might live in Europe to learn. biggrin

Well, if you learned either of them, you could at the very least sort of understand what a Portuguese/Spanish person was saying to you.

smile I have a friend I speak with from Brazil, and I'll speak my limited Spanish, and he'll speak Portuguese, and I can understand most of what he'll say, and he understands me as well. Of course, when we don't understand one another, we just switch back to English. smile

I dont know if any of you here have this same problem and believe me I'm not racist but why is it that if you have dark hair most spanish people automatically assume that you speak spanish? I work with the public where there are alot of spanish speaking people, alot of times they dont even ask me if I speak spanish, they just start speaking it to me and it irritates they HELL out of me cause I'm not even spanish. mad

Yes, this happens to me (I am hispanic)...but all you have to do is respond nicely that you don't speak Spanish...

Not to nitpick, but don't you BLEACH your hair blonde? Much as you cannot dye a black shirt white and must BLEACH it to make it white, your hair cannot be dyed a lighter color.

Maybe I am wrong...

It would entirely depend on how dark there hair is naturally. If black they may never get there!

Oh believe me I say it in a nice way but it does get a little irritating after a while, especially when you hear it about 20 times a day.

Oh believe me, it can be a problem after a while, I think it might not bother me so much if they would just ask me first if I speak spanish rather then just assuming, just because I have dark hair doesn't mean that I'm spanish, but where I live it seems to be a BIG problem.

If it's a big problem I get the impression that maybe there are a lot of Hispanics in your area (where you work). Maybe they're just so used to automatically speaking it. Just tell them "No hablo Español" politely and be done with it. Three words is all you need to remember.
